No Shortage of Evil Author: David Rosenberg ISBN: 1-4137-6412-6 Donald Corbbitt is a capable FBI agent. In this dramatic saga that necessarily includes violence I was treated to an early scenario of a realistic, expected terrorist attack. He handled it well. Later, he and other characters were faced working a multiple layered mystery that only toward the end of the work a most unexpected scenario revealed itself¿one just as realistic. Tension begins early and quickly and never lets up throughout the work. It is obvious this author is invested in a superior work ethic evidenced by his use of high technology at a reader level and a stick-to-itiveness staying on theme, pounding the keyboard to provide plenty for the reader to invest him or herself in as we enjoy a good adventure. Even the use of accurate Yiddish was nicely done and accurate. With more than a dash of romance, he added major corporate corruption (we¿ve seen this lately) and vengeance. I found a splash of humor too and enjoyed the break from the high level of stress I was seeing the characters go through. David seeded the story with technology and used it in an ingenious way. He also included a penetrating psychological study of the way a woman might feel when another slept her way to the top and occupied a promotion the former clearly deserved (I believe this happens). I was struck by his exploration of perhaps my¿and yours¿darker fantasies in terms of severe retribution or vengeance. I have to admit, part of me cheered for Maggie when she did the things she did. Behind the scenes there are string-pullers who are reaching high into the government and at the risk of giving away too much, let me just say this too is a realistic scenario, particularly given recent congressional scandals. A devious twist, an expertly laid trap, and desperation born out of human behavior envelopes the layers to make a finely presented finished product. The story quickly became one where protagonists and their actions were kind of like spiders legs and the reader isn¿t sure how they all tie in and in what direction¿but they will and they will in a way that makes sense and delivers a satisfying and unexpected ending. However, it is clear the ending requires a sequel and I¿m sure one that is just as exciting. It is easy to recommend David Rosenberg and the book, No Shortage of Evil. It rivals the best I¿ve ever read. Andrew Huddleston Heart & Iron ISBN: 1-4137-5397-3
No Shortage of Evil By David Rosenberg The opening chapter of ¿No Shortage of Evil¿ grabs you by the seat of the pants and draws you into a web of terrorism, political intrigue, big business and murder by assassination. Add a sprinkling of romance to a cast of characters that come to life under this author¿s pen, and you will be asking for the next installment of the trilogy as I did. The protagonist, FBI Special Agent Donald Corbbitt, is a brilliant mixture of Baretta without the Cockatoo, James Bond without the gadgets, and the humor and wisdom of a well-dressed Columbo. The only reason anyone would want this book to end is the knowledge that it will be followed by two more installments of the series¿Infusion of Evil and Extension of Evil. I can hardly wait! by Phil Whitley author of 'Keechie'
FBI Special Agent Donald Corbitt's life is as bleak and empty as the apartment in which he barely lives. Confronted with a corporate scandal, a series of murders, and bomb threats, Corbitt is forced to examine terrorism in all of its forms, and also to reconstruct the thoughts and actions of killers in order to anticipate their moves. And, yet, despite all of this, our hero seems to have the blanket of hope pulled around his shoulders. As he discovers new clues about the evil which surrounds him, Corbitt also manages to meet, and become interested in, his colleague Jocelyn Hafner. This sweet relationship provides a contrast to Corbitt's professional life, causing him to contemplate the recipe for the delicacy known as 'Happiness Soup.' This perfectly spiced dish is one that keeps our hero, and the reader, from falling into the dispair that would cloud the minds of most people. Debut author David S Rosenberg tackles several difficult subjects in his post 9/11 world of terrorists and federal agents. This wild ride of suspense is tempered nicely by humorous and even romantic moments that are masterfully woven into the plot. Although he has an unmistakable talent for plot creation, it is Rosenberg's characterization that shines through the entire novel. This nail-biting adventure is full of people that the reader is sure can be touched, if only one could reach into the pages in order to do so. I found myself not only seeing these people in my mind, but hearing them as well. Getting lost in this book is a must, and I look forward to reading the sequel to 'No Shortage of Evil'.
