Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Rosa Roberts
No child should ever be teased or bullied. In this Spanish version of the English anti-bullying book, tolerance is the prevalent theme. The text is not a straight forward sermon about not teasing or taunting others but a compassionate view of the many faces of ridicule. The illustrations are subtle in portraying the victims. Those featured include the child with eyeglasses or dental braces, a child who is deaf, blind, tall, short, skinny, overweight, the last one selected for a game, a slow worker, or one who is wheelchair bound. Each child will be able to identify with at least one of those presented. And the recurring phrase, "don't laugh at me" will resonate with the emotional heartbreak when words are spoken to break a child's spirit. This "Operation Respect" educational program book is a must-have for a counselor's office, school library, and classroom library collection. Included with the book is a musical CD inspired by the words from the text about respecting people's differences. The concluding message about everyone being unique is poignant in conveying the need for tolerance, respect, and acceptance.
