Great story line. Writing mediocre at best.

I read this and The Noise Revealed, and both suffer from the same problem - long paragraphs of boring text that add nothing to an intriguing story line. The crowning example was a description of a meal near the end of The Noise Revealed. The meal was described in what seemed like endless detail, and it added absolutely nothing to the story. I skipped through the second half and was pleased to find it didn't change the story a bit. All of the extra text just got in the way. I bought Revealed thinming maybe all of the boring stuff in Within was character building and setup. As it turns out, it was just boring. Sorry, I can't recommend either book.
