Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Mama duck is building a nest. She collects leaves, grass and even feathers to line it. In this "Touch-and-Feel" book, the outside of the nest is rough to the touch, like corrugated paper. When her nest is complete, the mother duck begins to lay her eggs. They are oval-shaped and have a greenish hue. After days of incubating the eggs, she suddenly hears a tap and then a crack. Tiny little beaks are fighting their way out of the eggs. Their feathers are damp and as yet the little ducklings have not quacked, but no matter, mother duck quacks as she heads on down to the lake with her brood. Each page has something to touch—soft yellow fluff on the duckling, a rubbery textured beak as it works its way out of the shell and so on. The collage illustrations are quite attractive and the combination of illustrations, textures, and an interesting and informative text make this board book a cut above most others.
