Lynda Weinman (Coloring Web Graphics, Deconstructing Web Graphics, and Designing Web Graphics, all LJ 5/1/97) is the designer's designer, but most people on the web don't know much about color theory. This book is for them. It covers everything from what the web is and how to search it to uploading finished pages and registering a web site. Very clearly written and well illustrated, this will circulate in virtually any library. Markup Languages The Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) is considered too complicated for most people undertaking web-page construction, but the intricate structure provided by SGML is invaluable for large linked document sets. Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) uses SGML as its conceptual model but can be quickly mastered and is the now-familiar, relatively simple coding used for web-page design. To further complicate matters, Extensible Markup Language (XML) has been created as a sort of a half-way point between underperforming HTML and too-complex SGML.     Very helpful when you're working on a new design

    This is one of three books I bought when working on a new and significantly more complex design for my personal company website. I liked this one for it's discussion of colors, layout, work with graphics, and also for some step by step instructions on how to use photoshop to make graphics display better.

    Another 'Web Design for Dummies'

    After reading Williams' excellent 'The Non-Designer's Design Book,' I was eager to tear into this book. I hoped for a text that would apply some of the principles outlined in 'Design Book' to the Web. Wrong! This is yet another 'Web design for Dummies' tome that doesn't seem to know what it wants to do. It succeeds neither as a good HTML primer nor a good design book. In addition, it contains some information that seems of questionable accuracy. Williams should stick to talking about design. As for a quality Web book, go with the standard: 'Web Design in a Nutshell.'

    A+ guidance for web newbies

    This book is full of easy to understand lessons about how to design and publish a web site. I appreciate the humor as well as the visual examples of web pages. The book demonstrates how to layout pages and more importantly, what to avoid!

    Jump Start Custom Web Designing

    This is written for non-designers, but includes enough substance to teach the fundamentals of good design. Ideal for the person who needs to make a good looking web site, but isn't making a living at coding HTML.

    Wonderful for Beginners and Great for Use as a Textbook!

    I'm currently getting started as a web designer and have studied HTML for a while as well as general design principles. I know a few computer teachers attempting to teach introductory classes to web design and they have had trouble finding information and a good book... This one's great for just that! It explains, in everyday english, the basics on how to get started designing a web page. This is great for people who don't know or want to have to know all the technical stuff right off the bat. Even some of the people I train on the computer and introduce the internet to (mainly farmers and small business owners or workers) would benefit greatly from the first few chapters in this book. It's a wonderfully written and designed book that clearly presents many of the introductory principles needed for web design.
