These Things I Do That Others May Live

I picked this book off the bargain table at the local B&N. The cover caught my attention and I am so glad! It tells the story of the US Air Force Pararscuemen in the War on Terrorism fought in Afganistan. This is a branch of the US Military that I had never heard of before. These men go in where ever others need them, to find and rescue those trapped and/or injured behind enemy lines. They are taught not only medical techniques to save lives but are also trained to protect the lives as well until they can evacuate the wounded. The stories are riviting and real; I had a hard time putting this book down. It has great insight into what makes this service so special. These are the guys who go in after American air crews that go down; when Army Rangers, Special Forces, Navy SEALS, Marine Force Recon teams find themselves in trouble and need a way out. You come to know these American heros as if they were the guys next door. They are very real people with hopes and fears, dreams and loved ones back home and your heart breaks when you learn one of them is not going to make it back home alive because he gave his life so that another may live. You also learn of the faith these men have in God and the trust they have in Him and each other to do what is necessary to perform their utmost, to have the courage and ability to do what has to be done. This is a must read for those of us who have never heard before of pararescue. They will make you proud.

Recommend - Good book on how our military operates

Michael Hirsh means well with this book but to me it jumped around a lot and hard to follow. The book was good in stating in what it takes to be a PJ. I learned and know how red tape gets in the way of doing your job. My heart goes out to these guys who do this service/job "So Others May Live".

    A True Masterpiece!

This book takes you behind the duties and responsibilites of the U.S. Air Force pararescue units in Afgahnistan. So well written, you actually feel like you are part of the action. Hirsh uses the most prolific and entertaining language I ever read.
