Chapter One

Thirty years ago, my Nonna became engaged to a West Point Cadet. It was a fairytale come true for Nonna. Most girls dream of their knight in shining armor riding up on a horse and swopping them off their feet to only take them to a magical land where they live happily ever after. But she actually did marry her knight in shining armor, and I am so glad she did.

The story goes like this. Nonna loved riding horses and was on the riding team at her college. Her team went to West Point to compete one weekend and one of her team mates knew a Cadet there. He brought some of his friends to visit with Nonna's team mates. Well, that was the night she met her knight, my Grandpa. A year later, Nonna and Grandpa became engaged and a year after that, they were married.

After their wedding and honeymoon was all over with they returned home and now had to find a place to live together. You see, Grandpa was in the Army and they had to find a place close to where he was going to be working.

When a few months had passed, Nonna realized something was different. So after visiting the doctor, Nonna found out she was going to a have a baby. But, they were not going to have just one baby, but two. Grandpa was beside himself with joy and laughter.

Many months pasted and then one day, my Aunt and mother were born. Twins! Everyone came to see them from near and far, and brought many gifts for them to enjoy. What and exciting time for Nonna and Grandpa. They had two beautiful baby girls that brought them so much happiness as the years past.

Then another exciting event took place in their lives two years later. They had a baby boy! Needless to say Grandpa was thrilled to have a little boy to play basketball, baseball, and kick soccer balls around. Grandpa was living his childhood as a boy all over again.

As the years passed, they visited many different states in which they lived in. From Virginia, Louisiana, Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Illinois to name a few. They made many new friends along the way and saw many places that only you could dream about or read in books.

Well, soon my mother grew up and went to College and met my Dad. They fell in love and three years later they were married. Like my Nonna and Grandpa's wedding, theirs was even more of a fairytale. It took place up in the mountains on a sunny, but not too hot, May afternoon. They were married under the white gazebo which overlooked the lake dawned with burgundy and white flowers. Everyone danced until the sun set and then well into the dark night. No one wanted this evening to end.

Then one day, my mother found out she was going to have me! My mother wanted to surprise Nonna and Grandpa in a special way to tell them they were going to be grandparents. So, my Mom and Dad decided they would go to Nonna and Grandpa's house that year for Christmas. The wheels started turning in Mom's head and then an idea popped into her head like a light bulb going on! So now her plan was in motion.
