Anyone who loves dogs should make a beeline for this book.”—John Barkham It’s Christmas Day when we meet Lewis Burkholder, a West Virginia livestock farmer and sheepdog trainer, and his talented young border collie, Nop. The usually happy holiday is shattered when Nop is stolen from his owner. Nop’s Trials is the story of Nop’s fate, the abuse and brutality he suffers, and his incredible resiliency. It’s a touching tale of a border collie’s undying desire to do his job and serve his master, and it explores the depth of love and devotion that a dog and a human can feel toward each other. This stirring novel of courage and love is a modern classic.

Heartwarming and a MUST for Border Collie Lovers

Dog lovers and especially Border Collie lovers will warm to this story. I have re-read it 3 times over the years. For anyone who knows how much these dogs bond to their owners, this story will make you cry, laugh and cheer.

    Soldier Finds Home In Book....

I was stationed far away from home when this book was sent to me, but I loved it!! I have a border collie and it made me miss him even more while reading this book! Not just a story, you get into Nop's mind too, and some of the things he thinks are heartbreaking, especially coming from man's 'best friend'. I loved it! A must read for any Border Collie owner!

    no other like it

McCaig is a wonderful writer who takes you into the mind and heart of both man and dog. Many times while reading Nop's trials I had to go and give my dogs a hug and thank them for their friendship.
