Overview

Journalist Meredith Hale's ex-husband claimed her Nora Roberts addiction gave her unrealistic expectations about marriage, and she believed him. All dreams of happily ever after or Nora Roberts Land as her mother calls it-went up in smoke. But when her family asks her to temporarily help their Dare Valley, Colorado newspaper, she decides it's time to change her life and prove her ex wrong. She's determined to find her own small-town Nora Roberts hero, prove that true love exists, and publish a story about her quest.
War correspondent Tanner McBride has just returned stateside to work for a major newspaper, and the last thing he expects is blackmail. Yet, before he can even unpack, he's headed to Colorado. His assignment? Make his boss's ex-wife fall for him and then break her heart. Her article about discovering love à la Nora might air dirty laundry about her marriage to the media mogul, threatening his senate run. The mogul wants Meredith stopped, and he makes sure Tanner has no choice in the matter.
When the two meet, the sparks between them are undeniable. Meredith, who vowed never to date another journalist, begins to succumb. Could Tanner be her Nora Roberts hero? As they work together to uncover the truth behind a suspicious death, the depth of their feelings unfolds and both realize they've kept their secrets for far too long. But before the truth can be revealed, their investigation takes a deadly turn, one that might make Meredith's personal Nora Roberts Land go up in flames.

"It {NORA ROBERTS LAND} captures the best of what I love in a Nora Roberts novel..."
Happily Ever After, USA Today Blog - Michelle Monkou
"Debut author Ava Miles combines small-town romance with big-world issues in a full-bodied romance fiction in the first of the Dare Valley series... and paints a wonderful idyllic setting for this small-town series with great characters."
Joyfully Reviewed - Shayna *
"Ava Miles's debut novel is warm, funny, and wholly entertaining."
Love Romances & MORE - Dawn *
"Ms. Miles does a great job in creating a story that shows how much the heroine loves Nora Roberts books and how determined she is in finding her own small town hero of her own ala Nora Roberts. The writing is tight, story flows smoothly and the few twists and turns left me on the edge of my seat, waiting for baited breath for what happens next."

Meet the Author

Ava Miles has always known what she appreciates the most about romance novels. It's the affirmation of romantic love and the guarantee of a "happily ever after." Which made it all the more incomprehensible when her sister Michelle's ex-husband concluded that Michelle reading Nora Roberts' books was to blame for their divorce. It was only later that Ava realized she had the hook for a new story and her first contemporary romance, NORA ROBERTS LAND, was born.
Ava and Nora share membership in their local Romance Writers of America chapter, Washington Romance Writers, but had never met. Regardless, Ava considered it common courtesy to let Nora know about her work-in-progress, and soon NORA ROBERTS LAND was on its way to publication.
Far from the first in her family to embrace writing, Ava comes from a long line of journalists. Ever since her great-great-grandfather won ownership of a newspaper in a poker game in 1892, her family has had something to do with telling stories, whether to share news or, in her case, fiction. Her clan is still reporting on local events more than one hundred years later at their family newspaper, much like the Hale family in her book.
Born and raised in the Midwest, Ava is a member of the Romance Writers of America and Washington Romance Writers. She is also part of an unofficial group that regularly convenes a writing retreat at Nora Roberts' restored Inn Boonsboro in western Maryland. Now writing full-time in the peace and quiet of her northern Virginia porch-swinging-friendly community, she is putting the finishing touches on the two upcoming books in her Dare Valley Trilogy and plotting her next series.

Nora Roberts Land (Dare Valley) is a romantic story inside a romantic story. Meredith Hale is a huge fan of all of Nora Roberts' books and returns home to Dare Valley, Colorado to find her own real life hero.  Meredith’s ex-husband, Rick the Dick, blames the marriage falling apart because she had read too many Nora Roberts' novels and is looking for a story-book life. Meredith is a journalist for a newspaper that is a rival to Rick the Dick’s newspaper. She takes a leave of absence and returns to Dare Valley to help her grandfather run the family newspaper while her father recovers from a heart attack.

Meredith sets a goal to prove that an everyday girl can have a Nora Roberts love story happen to them and publish a story about it. Rick the Dick wants to prove her wrong. He blackmails Tanner McBride, a journalist, who has just come back from writing about the wars, and wants a state-side job, into going to Dare Valley and charming Meredith, making her fall in love, and then breaking her heart. It does not go the way Rick hoped when there is an immediate attraction between Tanner and Meredith. Author Ava Miles then takes us on twists and turns, suspense and surprises before we find out if in fact Nora Roberts Land is a possibility or not.

Nora Roberts Land has all the elements of a great love story and an exciting suspenseful murder case. The plot will keep you reading long into the night. The characters are all well developed, strong and likable individuals, with some nasty villains thrown in for good reading. Ava Miles has a winner with her first book and I am excited about the next one French Toast (Dare Valley) due out soon. If you like Nora Roberts type books, this is a must-read.

What a wonderful book!  I absolutely loved this first book in the Dare Valley series.  Ava writes in a way that allows me to be swept away by the story and really care about the characters.  I read Nora Roberts Land in one night...I couldn't put it down!  As a fellow Nora Roberts fan, I enjoyed the references that fans of Nora books would get.
I absolutely recommend this book and have already read all that are published.  Can't wait for more to come out!

The title is an interesting play on words. There are many references to the characters in Nora Robert’s books, but that is where the similarities end. While this book is funny and somewhat interesting, it is most certainly lacking in content. This book is the first of a series, and evidently the author thought she had to introduce all the characters in the first 70 pages. I won’t be reading the rest.

I have never read a Nora Roberts book, but this book may change

I have never read a Nora Roberts book, but this book may change that! This is an awesome romance book in my opinion. The author admits it was inspired by her sister's real life experience where she was told Nora Roberts books gave her a false idea of love and happily ever after. So the book has this premise, a divorce with Nora Robert's books blamed. However, the divorcee decides she wants to find real love -- Nora Roberts quality love with a hero to admire. She goes back to her small town home to help with the family business. And.. she meets a man who makes her hear thump -- but is it too good to be true? It is a thoroughly enjoyable read, all the main characters are very 3-D and believable. Even the kissing scenes are hot!

I loved this book. I could not put it down. It grabbed me from the very beginning when Meredith had a difficult time walking into a NY book store to return to her Nora Roberts addiction. I have read some of Nora's books, but now I want to read them all so I know what Mere and Jill are talking about.
I have to admit I felt a tinge of early Linda Howard and Sandra Brown in Ava's writing style. I cannot wait to return to Dare Valley.

Nora Roberts Land by Ava Miles is her debut romance novel and was fun to read. This is the first book in a series that includes three other books based on a small town in Colorado.
Meredith Hale is a newly divorced journalist. Her ex-husband (known as Rick the Dick throughout the book) is also a journalist. He is also is self-centered, egotistical and completely unscrupulous in his personal and professional life. Meredith asked for the divorce after she confirmed that he was cheating on her. He, in turn, blamed her avid reading of Nora Roberts’ books for her being unrealistic about “real” relationships. Unfortunately, throughout their entire marriage, Meredith tried to be what she thought “he wanted” instead of herself. Now she is divorced, lost her self-confidence and demoralized.
Meredith decides to leave New York City and head back home to Dare, Colorado to help her family in their local newspaper and to give herself some space from the ex and his “new” political ambitions. She has also proposed to her New York City editor that while she is in Dare, she will write an article about finding “true love” like in the Nora Roberts novels. Her ex finds out about her article and decides that she is trying to ruin his political ambitions, so he hires Tanner McBride to meet, seduce and break Meredith’s heart so she won’t write the article. I use the word “hires” loosely because he is actually blackmailing him to do this dirty work.
Tanner McBride is also a journalist; but he has traveled the world and been in many war-torn countries to report the news. He has returned back to the US because he is burned out; but he is unsure of where he wants to go or what he wants to do next. When Rick the Dick contacts him, he thinks it is for a “legitimate” reporting position. He has to do the job to protect his family; but he spends a lot of time trying to figure out how to get out of it.
When Tanner and Meredith meet, it is electric. Luckily, for the reader, there relationship does develop slowly so we can enjoy them getting to know each other. They join forces to investigate drugs and two suspicious deaths which moved the plot along quite rapidly. I personally enjoyed the addition of this mystery into this book because romantic suspense is a favorite genre of mine. The secondary characters are charming and well-developed. Ava did a superb job of developing these characters to support Meredith and Tanner throughout this book. I know that I will be looking forward to their stories in the next books that comprise this series.
