A bit of fun twist to the Norse Mythology. Enjoyed it. Need to have knowledge of the Myths to really enjoy.
I give Jane Sibley's book to anyone, regardless of age, who is interested in the stories of the Norse Gods. Told with excellent, tongue-in-cheek humor, Sibley gets to the heart of the tales and makes them humorously accessible to any reader. Using modern metaphors (like making Thor into a biker) she cuts away at the esotericism of the sometimes confusing translations of stories from the Eddas and lets the reader access the morality and yes, even humor behind many (but not all) the most well known tales. A great, lighthearted read you can share with your children written by an expert on Norse lore and practices.
I love this book! Anyone who is familiar with the Norse Myths will be amused by these twists the whole way through. Never a disappointment.
Written in a light & readable style, this book gives a refreshing new twist to a subject that has been covered before in far too grave a manner: Norse mythology. Sibley updates Valhalla by turning it into a sports bar, and puts the thunder-god, Thor, on a Harley motorcycle. A fun read; definitely recommended!
