Children's Literature
This book in the "Pull Ahead—Continents" series introduces the reader to the three countries of North America: Canada, the United States and Mexico, as well as to the many islands which are also a part of the continent. Readers learn which of the North American rivers is the longest, which lake is the largest, which mountain is the tallest, and which mountain range stretches through all three countries. Readers are introduced to the deserts, the tropical rainforests, the Great Plains, as well as the continent's many animals. Information about cities such as Mexico City, New York, and Toronto is also included. One of the most spectacular photographs in this book, of which there are many, is of Niagara Falls. The photograph provides the reader with an aerial, panoramic view of the falls. Ideal for early readers due to its compact size, large print and bolded vocabulary words, this book is a wonderful addition to any classroom library. Complete with maps, a glossary, an index, a page filled with "Cool Facts about North America" and a list of resources such as books and websites for further study, it can serve as a reference book or it can be used for whole class instruction as well as for independent reading. 2004, Lerner Publications Company, Ages 4 to 8.
