Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Veronica Bartles
Part of the "Rookie Read-About Geography" series, this book gives young readers a very basic overview of the people, animals, and geographic features that make the North American continent unique. Beautiful, full-color photographs on each page illustrate the text with examples of the people and animals that live on the North American continent, and a modest vocabulary makes the simple text easy to understand. Without going deep into detail, Hirsch provides young readers with a small taste of what the continent has to offer. Although it is definitely not detailed enough to serve as a resource for serious research, this book is a perfect introduction to nonfiction reading (Common Core researchers take note). A table of contents, an index, and even a small, picture-based glossary give very young readers a preview of what to expect when they graduate to more advanced nonfiction titles as they grow. This book is even sized perfectly for small hands. The approximately eight-inch square shape makes it easy to manage for the youngest readers. Reviewer: Veronica Bartles
