Jim Craig's 'North to Disaster' is a thrilling tale of how Johnny Wainwright, flying repo-man and borderline hermit, goes on a quest to recover his friend's stolen airplane, and ends up finding both his heart and his guts.

Craig writes with a strong sense of place. His love of the Alaskan wilderness and of flying shines through Johnny's thoughts and actions. Readers are treated to grand views of Seward and is surrounding bay, mountains, and islands.

But that's just the setting: Craig has put together quite the thrilling adventure. Johnny is drawn into helping his friend Willie once Willie is wrongly attacked as revenge for one of Johnny's repo jobs. Talk about tension - then it's ratcheted up when Willie's smokin' daughter shows up and she and Johnny start a love/hate mating dance. Soon planes are crashing, people are dying, and the reader is caught up in a whirlwind of action, betrayal, revenge, and survival. What a ride!

Hopefully Johnny Wainwright's gonna have more adventures. A great debut, Jim Craig - don't keep us waiting too long! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. I LOVED this book! It is filled with action, suspense, romance and danger. The reader is compelled to climb into the cockpit with pilot/repo man, Johnny Wainwright as he takes you on the ride of your life! Once airborne, you will be over-whelmed at the vastness and rugged beauty of the Alaskan wilderness. As the action unfolds before your eyes, your knuckles turn white and you sit on the edge of your seat not knowing how much danger you are in. Feel the adrenaline rush as this extraordinary pilot pits his skills against rugged peaks, the cold, bears and other ruthless killers. The author, Jim Craig is also a fine pilot with a passion for the Alaskan frontier. I had the privilege of taking a scenic flight over Prince William Sound and the surrounding glaciers a few years back with Jim as my pilot. His book takes you on a scenic tour of Alaska from the colorful Yukon Bar to the woods on Montague Island. You too will feel like you are there! Was this review helpful? Literally could not put this book down. Whether you have or have not been to Alaska, if you like heart-pounding edge-of-your-seat suspense, this is your kind of book. The ever present danger, excitement, and romantic passion throughout this story and then a huge surprise right near the end kept me mesmerized. I was so intrigued I got out my Alaska Gazette to find all the beautiful locations in Alaska the author wrote about and followed the flight path taken in the spine-tingling chase scene near the end. Can't wait for the next Johnny Wainwright adventure! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
