CHAPTER ONE

MOVIES

Film and Video Dealers

The ever-present video shop makes it easy to forget the recent past, when you squandered a substantial part of your allowance or paycheck to collect movies in 8mm, Super 8mm or 16mm--or settled instead for whatever turned up on television. The ready availability of vast numbers of vintage short and feature films on video--and the almost prohibitive price of celluloid compared to magnetic tape--has resulted in few retail sources for images with sprocket holes. Private collectors often buy, sell and trade their wares via advertisements in The Big Reel (see entry 248.)

Film Dealers

Blackhawk Films, see Film Preservation Associates.

1. Enrique J. Bouchard, Charcas 3858, 6 Piso "A", 1425 Buenos Aires, Argentina. A reliable if faraway source for silent features and rarities on 16mm and video, with original titles in English. Chaplin, Keaton, Lloyd, Chaney, etc.

Not sure how I feel about this...

I'm afraid I can't vouch for the reliability of this book, but there is at least one disconcerting entry. It is a reference to "Soundtrack Video" in Santa Clarita, CA, a 'company' well-known for selling poor-quality, overpriced bootlegs and claiming them to be factory-made originals. On this fact alone, I have to doubt the validity of the remainder of the information contained in this book.
