Overview

After all, this year brought Hannah Davis nothing but the memory of her wandering fiancé marrying someone else behind her back. Now, sitting alone at a bar in Coronado, California, on December 31, she decides to do something radical . . . and lets a brooding good-looker take her to bed. But when a hysterical woman bursts into their room much too early on New Year's Day, Hannah realizes this guy's more complicated than she thought . . .

Ex-Secret Service Agent Tanner Hart screwed up, big-time! Hoping to temporarily boot some of the ghosts from his life, he hooked up with this sexy stranger for a hot one-night stand—only to discover she's the woman he's agreed to protect . . . from men just like him!

But a new year is a time for fresh beginnings. Despite the danger, the hoopla, and the hangovers, if Hannah's brave enough to risk her heart again—and Tanner's wise enough to realize he deserves it—maybe this one will be different.

Meet the Author

Christie Ridgway has never lived east of the Pacific Ocean, north of San Francisco, or south of San Diego. To put it simply, she's a California native who loves to travel but is happy to make the Golden State her home. She began her writing career in fifth grade when she penned a volume of love stories featuring herself and a teen idol who will probably be thrilled to remain nameless. Later, though, after marrying her college sweetheart, Christie again took up writing romances, this time with imaginary heroes and heroines. In a house full of males—one terrific husband, two school-age sons, a yellow dog, and tankfuls of fish, reptiles, and amphibians—Christie makes her own place (and peace) writing the kinds of stories she loves best.

A solid romance. This book has an original story line and great characters. You love the small town school teacher and the dreamy secret service agent. Tanner will win you over from the beginning. Your rooting for these two the whole way through. A great, fast-paced read. Also, a great side love story to enjoy along the way while enjoying Tanner's story.

This was a fun, entertaining, well-written book. Hannah is getting over finding out her fiance married someone else without telling her, and decides to take a vacation to ring in the new year - and maybe have a one night stand! Tanner lost his job as a secret service agent and has been trying to prove himself worthy of returning to the job. Then he meets someone he is irresistibly attracted to and decides to put aside his troubles and have a one night stand. What happens the next day when Hannah finds out Tanner is the person her uncle has appointed to be her tour guide during her vacation, and Tanner finds out Hannah is the assignment he has been given by his ex boss - Hannah's uncle? I enjoyed this book! It can be read as a stand-alone, though it is the second book in a two-book series with related characters. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Hannah has decided to a take a vacation after her fiancée died. After he died, she finds out that he had married someone else. She sat around waiting for him for years and he had married someone else. Tanner has spent the last 11 months trying to live down "the kiss" that has been in all the tabloids. He was in the Secret Service and was guarding Desiree, when she kissed him. At the same time, there was an assassination attempt on Desiree's father. All Tanner has to do to go back to the Secret Service is just show Hannah a good time for a few days as a favor for Hannah's uncle. It all sounds easy, but then he meets Hannah. It is going to be very hard to keep his hands to himself when she is around.

This is the first New Year's romance book that I've read and it's a companion to "Must Love Mistletoe." Tanner Hart is tasked with looking out for his former Secret Service boss's niece, Hannah Davis, who is on her own mission in Coronado, CA. The plot is filled with some mistaken identities mixed in with action and lots of heat. An enjoyable read to pass the time. Thanks to CR's California Girls for the copy of this book.

I loved this feel good story! It was filled with exciting action, stubborn Alpha's and strong determined women who with strength and perseverance remind the men they choose to love that there is a sun behind the clouds if they just reach for it! Smoking hot love scenes and snarky dialogue make you smile, gasp and chuckle!

Hero: 7/10 Heroine: 3/10 Romance: 6/10 Humor: 5/10 Pace: 8/10 Secondary Characters: 9/10 **3.5 stars** Hmm, I have a lot of questions that weren't answered in the end of this book. Honestly, I hopped between loving and strongly disliking this story. The characters, except for Hannah, were excellent. The romances (it's a double!) were pretty good. I felt more, and connected better, with the secondary romance between Troy and Dez. Desiree is how you write a heroine! Strong and independent and colorful. I don't know what happened with Hannah, but her character sucked and was pretty cardboard/one-dimensional. There was a lot that bothered me with this book, but I just can't bring myself to harp on it. Because, in the end, I enjoyed it a lot. I laughed, I swooned, I cried, and I could barely put it down. My eyes were voracious in their appetite to gobble up every word. The writing was great (even though the formatting of my e-copy was horrendous), the pace was equally great, the author has a way with descriptions that always hooks me (and as a self-proclaimed "Beach Lover", her words paint vivid scenes of sand and sea that make me so happy). The end left a lot to be desired. It ended so abruptly… it doesn't even feel like it ended actually. Maybe a Epilogue would have helped and cleared up some questions that remain. Especially if done from Hannah's POV. Like, what are her feelings about everything? What happened after he passed out? What about the bad guys? And I still have more questions! So, I stick with my earlier statement of a Love/strongly dislike feeling. Since it's a quick read, if one could find it free or cheap, I'd recommend this book. Especially if the loose ends that are never finished in the end don't bother you. It really is a cute book. I have no regrets reading it.

I couldn't get through it.   It required way too much suspension of belief.

I read this book right after reading "Must Love Mistletoe". This book was a love story but also a mystery. It had the same characters from the previous book which I like. I'll be reading more of Christie Ridgeway's books.

Would have been better if there was more story line and less sex.
