For lack of a better description, the songs are quirky, though well structured, and offered with tons of heart. And, although they sound like throwbacks to a simpler time, the compositions are all contemporary originals by New Mongrels ringleader Haynes Brooke. That's the allure of Not Dead (Yet) -- refusal to be pegged into any musical genre, style, or era. Those fans of the Indigo Girls and the Atlanta music scene who happen to read liner notes will quite likely recognize some of the names of the parties involved. This is an incestuous group, having weaved in and out of each other's careers for quite some time. "The Crazies," "9 Fingers," and "Wingtip Sheriff" are among the standouts.
