Overview

(Award-winning Novel,70,000 words) Kiki Villanueva holds a master’s degree from UCLA, is the best second grade teacher ever, and believes she had a psychic dream when she was thirteen in which she was given a list of her future husband’s attributes. Children are her life, and Kiki has good reason to think she may not have any if she doesn’t marry soon. Since typical dating methods haven’t been working out, she decides that when she goes back to L.A. for the summer, she’ll start using the list to sort through potential candidates.

When jaded political journalist Mark Bennett confesses to his doctor he no longer finds women—or anything else—exciting, Dr. Chuck is worried he’s depressed and suggests a change of pace. Mark agrees to write a fluff piece for a magazine about people who join high-priced dating services. (His premise is "Losers or Lunatics?") The dating service introduces him to Kiki, and he’s charmed by her open, passionate nature—not to mention her big, brown “do me” eyes—though she definitely belongs in the "lunatic" category with that psychic stuff. Mark is a confirmed bachelor from a family where no one says the L-word. However, while accompanying warm, sexy Kiki on her match-making service dates for his story, he soon wonders why he’s literally driving her to the arms of other men. If he could only get her to forget her list, and everything he said when they first met—oh, and the fact that he’s been a complete jackass… But Kiki’s not about to waste time on an emotionally challenged cynic who only wants to “play” and is definitely not on her list, even if he is handsome, and funny, and sexy—uh-oh!

Meet the Author

I used to think I was crazy, until I was diagnosed with being a writer. For my back story, most embarrassing moments, and funny blog posts, visit my NinaCordoba web site. You'll also find extended excerpts of my stories there.

Regarding Not Dreaming of You: Getting a book prepared for publication is a long road, and one of the things authors do is enter their manuscripts in contests to get critiques from authors they don't know and find out if their work is worthy of publication. So, my favorite part of the process were some of the judges comments on Not Dreaming of You:

"I love Kiki! What a great character. Fun and sassy, yet loving and emotional. A good mix of contradictions, skillfully blended."

"I really like Mark! What a cynical jerk!...He's a good guy waiting to break out. Well done!"

"Flawless!"

"...strong, sweet and funny."

"The story is fresh and charming and I loved the varied locations and ethnic backgrounds."

"...an engaging, well-written story."

"...fresh and unique."

"Excellent ending."

"...kept me reading 'til the end (which came much too soon!)"

"Mark is the only normal person in here. Kiki and Chris are nuts." (Yes, I really worried about that judge.)

"I'm offended by Kiki's joke about bagpipes. I think you should remove it from the story." (Huh? And not offended by her creepy next date?)

I guess you just can't please everyone, but I hope you enjoy Not Dreaming of You!

    Funny, Fast, Fantastic Read!

I so enjoyed this book. Mark and Kiki were so much fun and so misguided about love. Mark would be hard for woman to resist! And Kiki is his perfect, quirky match. I found myself laughing right along with the characters. Truly an entertaining RomCom!!

    A really fun read!

A romantic comedy featuring a spicy Argentinian heroine and the pragmatic American reporter who asks to follow her in her dating service search for the perfect mate. A list of quilifications she's carried since puberty, a loudly ticking biological clock, and a stick-in-the mud gringo who constantly hassles her about her method for finding Mr. Right and her natural exhuberance make for stressful days. Add in the fact she's hiding all this from her family--something that weighs even heavier on her conscience. In spite of this list of downers, Kiki never loses hope or her vivacious outlook on life. You will absolutely love her!
