    Chapter 1 (part three)

At lunch, I sit next to Jo and lean my head on her shoulder. "I just failed my geometry quiz." Lifting my head, I look at her sheepishly. "That sucks," she says. Good ole' Jo. If I ever need a slap back into reality, she is perfectly capable of doing it. She has never, ever, not been completely one hundred percent straight forward. "Incoming, nine o'clock." I turn around and see Eli coming toward us with his tray. "Hey." He drops his tray and front of me, sitting down. He hunches his enourmous 6'4" body down so he can look Jo and I in the eyes if he decides to talk to us. Jo's not so bad. I, however, am 13 inches shorter than him. Eli proceeds to eat his food. Well, technically its food anyway. We talk for a while, and all well until I notice te complete silence. You could hear a pin drop from a mile away. Jo is twisted around looking at something behind us, and Eli is looking over my shoulder. "What are you-" I begin to say, turning around to look. But what I see cuts me off. Hes here. He is about to leave but then he sees me. He walks toward my table and I turn around quickly, swallowing hard. I hear his footsteps stop behind me. Then his goons stop right behind him. "What do you want, Viceroy?" Jo spits, her voice full of venom. She says 'viceroy' like you would say 'child molestor'. He looks down at her. "Nice to see you again, Josephine. I see you haven't changed at all." The sound of his voice makes me stiffen. "I have come to collect my sister." I expect Jo to have some kind of snappy comeback, but no. Its Eli instead. "Oh, she's your sister? I suppose that explains why you left her in an orphanage when she needed you most, not really caring what happened to her." I turn around to see my brother's reaction. At first, I am stunned by how much he looks like our father. Tall, red hair, blue eyes, all of it. But dad would never have worn a suit, and he didn't havspite in his eyes. At least, not in the stories I've been told, and the picture I have. His face shows shock at Eli's comment, but Jake soon collects himslef. "Katelynn, you really should control your boyfriend. He could get in serious trouble with a mouth like that. Now, come." He turns to leave. "No." The word comes out of my mouth before I know what happened. Jake turns around and repeats himself. Eli stands up. Jake may be tall, but Eli towers over him. He tells my brother I'm staying. He takes his goons and leaves. •••••••••••• A cloth covers my mouth and nose, and I wake up and try to scream before I fade into blackness.
