Overview

Each title in the Not Your Mother's Book series contains approximately 60 real-life stories dedicated to a unique theme, drawn from the passion and experience of dozens of writers in a whimsical and entertaining mix of irreverence and humor. Founded by former coauthors and editors of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, this similarly styled anthology series foregoes the sad, sappy, preachy, or death-oriented stories that were that series' hallmark, and unlike that series, is never afraid to be a little risqué. These stories are funny, daring, different, and smart.

From the jungles of Central America to the highlands of Africa, from the charms of Europe to the mysteries of North America, from the sacred sites of Asia to cruising on the Caribbean, the stories here are selected to delight and entertain. Armchair travelers and on-the-road adventurers alike will enjoy this vicarious journey around the world but should be warned: fasten your seat belt, because you're guaranteed one hell of a trip!

I'm not big on the "we went here, we saw this, it was..." I'm more the kind that tends to want to read where you were when you finally found a laundromat! Or if there was Western Swing music in Singapore.... So, stories about a simple hairbrush, and the character at the coffee shop, are just my kind of thing. With this in mind, I hunkered down in a recliner and imagined myself in a first-class cabin with a good book. This book. Now, I've been to 37 foreign countries PLUS Texas. So, I was happy as a mule eating briars all the way to the end. WARNING: This is NOT your normal travel read. It's way better than that. But then, I guess you will just have to read it yourself to get the gist of it. I highly recommend that you DO.

Travel is a lot of fun, but sometimes things go wrong. And those things usually aren't funny...until later. This book is full of funny stories that must have been written after the fact, because I'm sure some of these happenings were not funny at the time. I love to travel and I love to read, so I found this book to be just perfect for me. The short stories allowed me to read now and then while waiting, or to read before falling asleep, and it was also the perfect book to read on the airplane. I read a story, dozed, woke up and ate some peanuts, read another story, etc. and before I knew it, I had read the whole book and I had arrived at my destination. That's the nice thing about an anthology of short stories. I had been many of the places that were written about, so could identify with the story. And those stories about places I had not been fueled my interest and imagination. This was a humorous book and I really enjoyed it.
