Overview

Nearly 60 percent of American households today consist of only one or two people, yet most cookbooks don’t reflect this trend, with recipes designed for large families, yielding 6-8 servings. For individuals and small families who want to cook hearty, healthful meals but don’t want to deal with all the leftovers, Beth Hensperger has the solution. The James Beard Award–winning author follows up the best-selling Not Your Mother’s® Slow Cooker Cookbook with Not Your Mother’s® Slow Cooker Recipes for Two, a collection of 125 new recipes specially designed for the small slow cooker. As always, Hensperger’s innovative recipes call for fresh, healthful ingredients and continue to prove that the slow cooker can produce amazing meals. While the recipes yield the perfect amount for two or three people, there is no shortage of flavor with dishes such as Quick Hominy and Zucchini Chili, Moroccan-Spiced Tomato Chicken with Almonds, Lamb Stew with Lemon and Garlic, and Vegetable Polenta with Mascarpone Cheese. The slow cooker is an essential countertop appliance for busy cooks, and this is the only book on the market specifically written for the increasingly popular 1 ½- 3 ½-quart slow cooker. Not Your Mother’s® Slow Cooker Recipes for Two is great for the growing population of empty-nesters, working couples, singles, and small families who want the convenience of small slow-cooker cooking without sacrificing wholesomeness and flavor.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Hensperger is the author of more than a dozen other cookbooks and coauthor of Not Your Mother's Slow Cooker Cookbook. Her follow-up to that best-selling title presents recipes developed specifically for smaller slow cookers intended to serve one or two people that often leave leftovers (she points out that smaller batches cannot be cooked efficiently or as well in larger cookers). Most of the recipes are for homey, hearty fare; there is also a short chapter of quick and easy accompaniments prepared separately, along with a good, basic introduction to slow cooking. Terrific cookbook for the adventurous, time-challenged cook

I usually cook for two and have tried a number of the recipes in this book (which can also easily be doubled) - every one has been easy, tasty and compliment-producing. The recipes are uncomplicated, can mostly be prepared in advance and provide suggestions for accompanying side dishes. The best part for me is being able to plug in my slow cooker and go off on errands, knowing that my meal will be ready when I need it.

    Excellent Book

Loved the variety of recipes in this book. It's hard to only cook for two people and these portion sizes are just perfect. These are definately recipes that would work for company.

    So Far So Good

Received a slow cooker as a wedding gift and did not know what to do with it because I have never used a slow cooker before. I bought this book and thank goodness. I have tried several of the recipes in this book and they are delicious. I have yet to hit a complicated recipe. It is great to just chop and prep everyting before I got to work and have a meal ready when I get home. The portion sizes are great, some are more than enough for two people. My husband has yet to finish a meal and still be hungry.
