All Music Guide - David Jeffries
French DJ David Guetta's R&B-meets-house formula had topped the charts around the globe by the time his 2011 effort, Nothing But the Beat, saw release, so it shouldn't be surprising that this star-studded collection of big-room tunes plays like a hits collection. His previous album, One Love, felt the same way, with every track a potential single, but the differences are in each album's appropriate title. This one plays like Now That's What I Call Guetta 2, with Snoop Dogg acting as an avenging disco Doggfather on the Auto-Tuned "Sweat," while Nicki Minaj does a pole dance on the operating table for "Turn Me On," which turns a doctor visit into double entendre ...

This one plays like Now That's What I Call Guetta 2, with Snoop Dogg acting as an avenging disco Doggfather on the Auto-Tuned "Sweat," while Nicki Minaj does a pole dance on the operating table for "Turn Me On," which turns a doctor visit into double entendre overflow. Jennifer Hudson guests on the cut "Night of Your Life," making it the diva uplift track you'd expect from such a title, and Sia's "Titanium" is a decent stab at Coldplay-for-the-house-music set. But something's missing, something along the lines of "When Love Takes Over." Without that soulful kind of anchor, Nothing But the Beat offers the same experience as one of Guetta's numerous remix sets, which is a compliment if you're a dancefloor and a caution if you're a pair of headphones.

    Daring and Experimental Beats

"Nothing But the Beat" by David Guetta is a very exciting and happy cd that has dance, pop, and electronica music tones in many of the musical tracks. What I enjoy the most about this cd is that David Guetta has the courage in pushing the musical envelope with the musical tracks and the artists that he chose to collaborate with. For example he teams up with Snoop Dogg for the daring club track of "Sweat". He does the very risqué and catchy "Little Bad Girl" with Taio Cruz and Ludacrais. The musical track that is "Lunar" (with Afrojack) is also very good and unique. However, my personal top three favorite tracks are "Night of Your Life" (with Jennifer Hudson), "Titanium" (with Sia), and "Turn Me On" (featuring Nicki Minaj). "Night of Your Life" is a provocative musical track about someone mentioning how they intend to give a memorable night to their date as long as they are treated right. "Titanium" is a fantastic musical gem about being emotionally strong (a.k.a psychologically bulletproof) even in the face of whatever judgement and/or treatment is projected outward. My overall favorite song is "Turn Me On" (featuring Nicki MinaJ). "Turn Me On" is an intense musical track about wanting to spend time with a crush and/or romantic interest. "Nothing But the Beat" by David Guetta is a great cd for anyone that enjoys an eclectic range of music that contains a creative combination of electronica, dance, and pop music.
