All Music Guide - John Bush
Released to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Frank Sinatra's death, Nothing But the Best is indeed one of the best single-disc compilations ever released on Sinatra. This isn't a career overview, however, since it begins with his inaugural Reprise recordings circa 1960 and surveys the rest of the '60s including only two tracks not from the '60s. This was the age of Sinatra as the hard-swinging Chairman of the Board, illustrated perfectly by "Luck Be a Lady" and "My Kind of Town." But it was also the age of wistful, middle-aged material like "Summer Wind," "Strangers in the Night," and, of course, "It Was a Very Good Year." And it was also the age when Sinatra had the freedom to record with everyone he wanted to record with, whether it was Count Basie or Antonio Carlos Jobim or his daughter Nancy the latter on the 1967 chart-topper "Somethin' Stupid". All of those periods are represented on Nothing But the Best, which takes its place above the best previous Reprise collection, Sinatra Reprise: The Very Good Years, even though it somehow omits one of his classics, "Love and Marriage." For this compilation, Reprise also commissioned new 2008 remasters of each track, which sound better than any previous, and added a new bonus track: a version of "Body and Soul" with a vocal recorded in 1984 laid over a 2007 arrangement by Torrie Zito and Frank Sinatra, Jr.

    not exactly

Sinatra is a dish eaten whole- not piecemeal. If you just want to be introduced to America's consummate pop singer, this will do. But then you have to do more than just sticking your toe in. Sinatra is a man of moods and his albums reflect those moods. This album is a little bit of almost everything and is superficial and strictly for amatuers. The pros go for the real thing, like A Man alone or Wee Small Hours. You can sink your teeth in here, swim out into deep water and prepare to drown your sorrows along with his. This is not for the faint of heart but for the big boys and girls. so, watch out.

A sintilating compilation of the crooner's best works.

New York, New York is memorable. Summer Wind is my favorite.

    Essential Sinatra

If you only want one Sinantra CD for your collection, this is the one to buy. A great arrangement of many of the best Sinatra songs combined with some of his best performances.

    Timeless

The packaging is really great too. It captures Sinatra when he was young. My parents love big band, and as a kid in 1964, I can enjoy listening to songs I remember. I enjoy the crispness. I have two favorites, that he did later: "My Way" , and "Theme from New York, New York".

Nothing but the best from the Chairman of the Board

I am a closet Frank Sinatra fan, so this was a real treat when my wife left it this little surprise on a coffee table. The USPS commemorative stamp inside is a gem too. The songs are the best of the best and pure joy. Buy it for yourself, your parents, your friends...

    Magnificent!

The restoration is nothing less than perfect. You honestly can't tell where the restoration begins and the music flows. When listening to this CD, I felt as if I were in the studio with ol' blue eyes himself. This is, without a doubt, the best single compilation CD yet made for Sinatra.
