Editorial Reviews

Angela Barthauer
I picked up Nothing But Trouble After Midnight with mild skepticism at best. Being a HUGE Jane Austen fan, I thought "nothing could draw me in, captivate me until the last page and leave me wanting more like a great Austen romance can."... Obviously, not written in 18th century Georgian England, but with the same ascerbic wit and the characters ability to make fun of themselves, Kim Blackadar left me wanting another installment of her book.
John Beck
Is Kimberly Blackadar the modern Jane Austen? I'll leave that judgement up to the reader. In Nothing but Trouble After Midnight we have the mating, dating, waiting, baiting, hating, berating that characterize the behavior of teenage girls. The early chapters are light, fun, easy reading...Why did I have trouble focusing my eyes on the last page? Perhaps the air was dry. Perhaps I should admit that I was emotionally touched. Highly recommended.
Mindy Fulton
Smartly written, Nothing but Trouble after Midnight pulled me in from the very first page. Blackadar creates a world in which real people encounter the joys of youthful innocence, as well as the disappointment and disillusionment that sometimes comes with experience. Audiences of all ages will be enthralled by this amazing story.
Tammy Eden
I never thought, that as an adult, a book found under the genre of young adult/teen fiction would draw me in so deeply, but Nothing But Trouble After Midnight hooked me from the very beginning. I couldn't put it down, and sat and read it in one sitting. My heart ached right along with Chloe as she faced the struggles of peer pressure, abstinence, and so many other obstacles that teens must face today...I was comfortable in sharing this book with my 13 year old daughter.
Vanessa Moorman
I settled in to begin reading NBTAM one evening before bed and found myself not able to put the book down until I had finished the whole book that evening. It is a very captivating book that draws you into the world of the characters. It is very realistic and leaves you feeling connected to the characters. Tho book deals with topics that most teens are facing today but shows how to tackle those choices with courage and dignity. I highly reccomend reading this alongside your teenager.

Meet the Author

Kimberly Blackadar is the author of NOTHING BUT TROUBLE AFTER MIDNIGHT (Two Harbors Press, 2009) and speaks to schools across the nation about her debut novel and the writing process.

Before she began her writing career, Kimberly taught English, social studies, and drama at the secondary level and cites her teaching experiences as the greatest inspiration for her teen series. Her first teaching job was at Ocoee Middle School (Ocoee, FL) and was followed by other positions at Winter Springs High School (Winter Springs, FL), Ludlow Middle School (Ludlow, KY), and John Edwards High School (Port Edwards, WI). While teaching, she earned National Board Certification for Early Adolescence/English Language Arts and continues to reach students through her writings.

She now resides in Minnesota with her husband and two young children. She is working on the second installment of the seven-book series.

Kimberly is an avid runner and reader, but above all, she enjoys visiting schools—receiving feedback from teens is the greatest part of becoming an author!

Nothing But The Best Book I've Read!!

In all honesty, I am not an avid reader. BUT every so often I will come across a book I love, and within one evening I will completely devour it, cover to cover. Such was the case with Kimberly Blackadar's stunning novel Nothing But Trouble After Midnight.
Even from just the first chapter. I was hooked! Reading the main character Chloe's thoughts on friends, school, family, and love relationships from the evil ex Austin to her soul mate Rob was an exceptional look into a teenage girls' mind. The characters all remind me of people in my own life, making it that much more of an enjoyable book! This book is full of both humor and drama, just like anyone's life really is. While reading I would be laughing out loud on one page, and crying my makeup off the next.
I recommend this book very, VERY highly to anyone who wants a fantastic read into the life of Chloe Preston, a high school girl dealing with normal everyday life, and at times, complete gut-wrenching tragedy. By the end of this spectacular novel you will think of Chloe as a best friend and sitting there with your pillow, blanket, chocolate and Kleenex, you will want to read more.

Nothing But Trouble After Midnight is a must read for any teen!!!!

Nothing but trouble after midnight is a thrilling book from the first page to the last. The characters are intriguing and unforgetable. The main character shows the power of true love in a way that will even make a grown man cry. Kim Blackadar has shown herself to be a true author in every sense of the word. She has excelled with her writing of this book to become one of the leading teen authors of our time as far as I am concerned. This book shows real life situations that teen girls must be aware of and know about so they can prevent them from happening to themselves. I never thought I, as a grown man would get so much out of a book for teens but that is the power of Blackadar, she is an author of extreme talent, that anyone can identify with. Young or old, I recommend this book to anyone. Buy it for yourself and then give it to your kids. Just have kleenex ready.

Captivating read that left me ready for more

I settled in to begin reading NBTAM one evening before bed and found myself not able to put the book down until I had finished the whole book that evening. It is a very captivating book that draws you into the world of the characters. It is very realistic and leaves you feeling connected to the characters. Tho book deals with topics that most teens are facing today but shows how to tackle those choices with courage and dignity. I highly reccomend reading this alongside your teenager and discussing it together. It could save them and you some future heartaches. Just have some tissues nearby- you will probably cry!

Kimberly Blackadar has done a fantastic job creating characters that are realistic and easy to identify with. I am looking forward to the rest of the series and what other challenges the characters will tackle- whatever they are Kimberly will approach them with her realistic, yet intuitive style of writing.

Where was this when I was a teenager?!

I never thought, that as an adult, a book found under the genre of young adult/teen fiction would draw me in so deeply, but Nothing But Trouble After Midnight hooked me from the very beginning. I couldn't put it down, and sat and read it in one sitting. My heart ached right along with Chloe as she faced the struggles of peer pressure, abstinence, and so many other obstacles that teens must face today. Needless to say, I had to keep the tissue box close by!

Kimberly Blackadar handles these sensitive issues in such a way that I was comfortable in sharing this book with my 13 year old daughter. Since she will be entering high school next year, and these are some issues she too may face, it was a great way to open the door to some rather deep discussions.

I can hardly wait for the next book!

Nothing But Trouble is Nothing But Good!

I picked up Nothing But Trouble After Midnight with mild skepticism at best. Being a HUGE Jane Austen fan, I thought "nothing could draw me in, captivate me until the last page and leave me wanting more like a great Austen romance can". I wouldn't be writing this review if my conviction had held up under my scrutiny and doubts.
Obviously, not written in 18th century Georgian England, but with the same ascerbic wit and the characters ability to make fun of themselves, Kim Blackadar left me wanting another installment of her book.
Honestly, I don't know if she has one planned, but I definitely hope she continues to write. Her humor, honest treatment of delicate, yet relevant subjects and well-developed characters are a SUPERB addition to the teenage romance genre. BUT, I'm 41 years old and still LOVED the book.
    Can't wait for more!

Cant wait to read the next book in the series!

I had been warned in advance. My friends read this and told me....be ready for a good cry......they weren't wrong. I loved the characters in the book. The integrity of some of the characters. It reminded me a lot of when I was that age and the constant fight to do what is right and to do what everyone else wants you to do. I also related to the relationships between the girls. There are girls in here that anyone can relate to. The reality of what happens and the aftermath was true to nature. It definately would be a great book ot read with your daughter or son and discuss after. Thanks for the wonderful rollercoaster ride.

    Couldn't put it down!

Nothing But Trouble After Midnight by Kimberly Blackadar, is the first in a series of novels about a young girl's trials and tribulations of teen years. Chloe seems to have it all, till one night, everything changes. Can she overcome the obstacle thrown before her? What will happen with her relationships and her perfect life? Can she run away from it all?

This is an engaging book that is difficult to put down. Blackadar accurately portrays teen life, including the joys of friendships, first love, the pressure to fit in and the loss of innocence. Chloe Preston is faced with an obstacle in which she must somehow learn to come to terms with in order to move on. And, like so many of our struggles in life, the enemy is her own self. What does it take to move forward?

Blackadar addresses a difficult subject carefully with honor and an uncanny understanding of the victim, her family and her friends. As a licensed therapist, I can recommend this book on so many levels for young people, and adults, as well. There are so many topics in this book that warrant discussing with young people today. I urge both mothers, and daughters, to read this book and discuss the issues at hand. The lessons that Chloe Preston learns are beneficial to anyone struggling with adversity. And, although you will need a box of tissues when reading this novel, the tears will make way for the rays of hope.

Kimberly Blackadar is a personal friend of mine. This review is written honestly and from the heart. I was not compensated in anyway for this review, and, in fact, purchased the book myself. I do need to add that I am currently acting in the capacity of Kimberly's regional publicist. Kudos, Kimberly! I can't wait for the next one!

Nothing But Trouble After Midnight, written by Kimberly Blackadar, is a compelling book which deals with tough problems encountered in many teenagers lives. From friendship, love, temptation and peer pressure, the author brings alive the characters and their feelings so much so that I found myself reading page after page without wanting to ever put the book down! Couldn't put it down!

I liked this book from page one and couldn't put it down. I read it in one sitting. I was really into the characters and drawn in by the story. The best part was toward the end when something unexpected happens, and you are left wondering how the main character will deal with everything.

    Couldn't put it down!

I wasn't sure what to expect, given that this is considered a teen/young adult book and I'm in my late 30s, but what I got was a fabulous story. It started out a little slow, but very quickly picked up and i was hooked. I can't wait to read more books in the series when they come out!
