Overview

High atop a Los Angeles skyscraper, an office Christmas party turns into a deadly cage-match between a lone New York City cop and a gang of international terrorists. Every action fan knows it could only be the explosive big-screen blockbuster Die Hard. But before Bruce Willis blew away audiences as unstoppable hero John McClane, author Roderick Thorp knocked out thriller readers with the bestseller that started it all.

A dozen heavily armed terrorists have taken hostages, issued demands, and promised bloodshed — all according to plan. But they haven’t counted on a death-defying, one-man cavalry with no shoes, no backup, and no intention of going down easily. As hot-headed cops swarm outside, and cold-blooded killers wield machine guns and rocket launchers inside, the stage is set for the ultimate showdown between anti-hero and über-villains. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good fight… to the death. Ho ho ho!

Before you see DIE HARD the movie, read this book

NOTHING LASTS FOREVER (now DIE HARD) is the inspiration for the Bruce Willis film, DIE HARD. In the book however, things are a lot different. For instance, the character is not John McClane (movie), but Joseph Leland, there are women terrorists (yeah!) & he's going to see his daughter, not his wife. Did I mention that he's around 70 in the book? Yep, he's not in his mid-thirties as depicted inthe films. Nope, this ol' timer can kick some butt though. Leleand is a retired cop (who now does consultant work) who heads out to LA to visit his daughter for the holidays. Little does he know that all hell is going to break loose in her place of work- a high rise building in the middle of los Angeles!! The book is great! You feel real sympathy for the characters & Thorp is a master of suspense. there is a lot more interaction w/ the smaller characters, where the film does not deal with them too much. I loved DIE HARD, it's my favorite movie of all time & I expected the book to by rather boring in comparison. But, due to the extreme differences, NOTHING LASTS FOREVER is riveting & captivating. It holds your attention from start to finish. Even the endings are completely different but compelling. If you're looking for a real heart-pounding adventure, read this book. Even if you've seen the movie, this book will keep you on the edge of your seat/sofa/bed/toilet- whatever. Leland is going to get through this night despite any obstacles that may arise. It has enough surprises to keep even some DIE HARD fan like me guessing & in suspense.

A Must-Read for "Die Hard" Fans

I really enjoyed this book, the inspiration for the film "Die Hard". The book is about a retired cop who is 70 years old named Joe Leland. He goes to L.A. to visit his daughter, Stephanie, and her kids, when terrorists take over the Klaxon Oil Building where Stephanie works. Did I mention there is a suprise ending? Great novel, must have for any "Die Hard" fan.
