A heady trip into a dark new world.

Captain Nothing is a new breed of superhero. Well. He’s not so much a superhero as a half-washed, half-drunk, serial career failure type of vigilante with his own rules, questionable morals, and an eye for seeing the ills of the world.

If you want a page turning series of short stories that shred the superhero trope into bleak, nihilistic, self-absorbed exercises in our ‘Hero’s’ attempts to survive various Trials by Monster, Villain or just Ill Luck – then this is the collection for you.

The ease with which Steve writes kaleidoscopic detail into the rotting fabric of Captain Nothing’s world reminds me of his earlier collection: The Weird Ones, and lends itself to the relentless narrative that drags you cursing and stumbling through Captain Nothing’s dark vision of the City and its troubles.

With this, and the next collection, Nothing Down; the City has a wonderfully reluctant new Hero to keep us wondering about what lurks beyond the lighted streets.
