From Barnes & Noble
The Barnes & Noble ReviewThe imagery for Nova's Ark has been conceived and executed in an extraordinary new way. Since the story and characters were designed to live in book, movie, and toy worlds, David Kirk has rendered his world in 3-D computer-generated imagery (CGI), the same technique used in computer-animated feature films like "Toy Story" and "A Bug's Life."
Kirk first makes a precise line drawing, then a concept color oil painting. Next Kirk, working with a team from Engineering Animation, Inc., the Iowa-based interactive developers for such companies as IBM, Hasbro, and Disney Interactive, builds digital models of the characters and scenes in wire frame. Texture mapping and lighting design follow, with finishing touches applied in 2-D paint software.
