Barnes & Noble - Tracy E. Hopkins
With the popularity of boy bands waning once again think New Kids on the Block and his younger brother Aaron's career soaring, Nick Carter -- the youngest and arguably the most marketable member of the Backstreet Boys -- has taken flight and gone solo. In BSB, Carter's more timid vocals were often overshadowed by Brian Littrell's earnest, country-tinged crooning and A. J. McClean's flamboyant vocals. But on his urgently titled, rockin' debut, Now or Never, Carter sounds surprisingly convincing as a frontman. On the latter track, Carter cleverly serenades his dream girl with smooth lyrics such as, "In the land of the free/Make a prisoner of me/Close my eyes and you're all that I see." Only time will tell, but like his 'N Sync counterpart, Justin Timberlake -- who also released his first solo disc, Justified, in late 2002 -- Carter's boy band–less future looks bright. After all, it's Now or Never.

Emily a college student from the Queen City

I love this album and I own it. Nick Carter is mega cute and he was born in 1980 and I was born in 1982 which means I'm 21. he's 2 years older than me. He's my beau and I wanna marry him someday. I love his great voice. He's the best singer in this world and I'm head over heels in love with him. I love the 11th track on the album. I feel like he's singing to me. He's the #1 boy for me to love. He's so handsome and sweet with those blue eyes and that blond hair. He's a sweetheart.

Even if you hate pop AND the backstreet boys, take a risk and buy this. You'll thank me later.

Ok, I've never liked pop, especially boy band groups...but this friend of mine made me listen to this by force. I pretended to not like it (the name made me cringe at first)...but then right after I went out and bought it. Some of the songs are really unusual, a departure from the norm of the radio (esp. "My Confession"). If you like U2, listen to I Got You, then you'll never stop playing the cd. Just trust me, and buy it. You will be very pleasantly surprised.

    Now or Never [Bonus DVD]

I am in love with Nick Carter's solo debut, 'Now or Never'. I've always been a fan of the Backstreet Boys, but Nick hands down is my favorite. When I first heard that he was releasing a solo effort, I was thrilled. The first time I heard the song "Help Me" I knew that I was going to LOVE the CD. When I got the CD and listened to it, I was blown away. Nick definitely rocks on this album with all of the harder guitars, drums, and raw vocals. The bonus DVD is an added excitement also featuring such things as the "Help Me" video, photo gallery, and exclusive interviews. If you're a true BSB fan, or just wanna hear some exceptional music, check this CD out! =0)

He also showed what he can do with a pen and paper co-writing 5 of the 12 songs on the cd. So GO AND GET IT TODAY!!

    Excellent first solo attempt!

The first attempt from Nick Carter is unlike anything Backstreet fans have ever heard. This album is a departure from the usual pop sound of the Backstreet Boys. On this cd, Nick takes a dive into his more rock-flavoured roots with hard-rocking tracks like "Girls In The USA" and "Blow Your Mind". The introspective lyrics of his first single "Help Me" strike a chord with everyone out there who has, at one time or another, felt lost. Nick co-wrote many of the songs on the cd, including "Do I have to cry for you?" which is a beautiful ballad. There is something for everyone this cd. If you liked the music Nick made with Backstreet Boys then you'll like this because it's something new. This album is going to cement Nick's status as a solo artist! Also, for those of you who bought the cd with the Bonus DVD, it is definitely worth it! The DVD includes 2 interview sections with Nick: one on the beach and one in a classic car. There is also 2 segments of behind-the-scenes in the studio footage, as well as the "Help Me" video and a bit of the MTV Making of the Video. It is totally worth the few extra dollars to get the dvd version.

    This CD was amazing

I love this cd...its so great. I love all of the song. This CD has a mix of pop and some rock influence. I love the slow paced songs like "Who needs the World" and "Do I have to cry for you" But the songs that were more fast like "Blow you mind" and "I stand for you" are soo great too. Basically this CD is amazing...I recommend everyone to go get it.

    Now or Never

Nick Carter's new solo cd, Now or Never, is a cd to be picked up. With a pop/rock sound, Nick experiments with sounds usually not used by most artists. Taking an 80s theme, Nick's sound goes from Bryan Adams to Bon Jovi, showing off his range or skill and talent without abandoning his Backstreet roots. This cd deserves a round of applause.

Nick Carter Delivers With "Now Or Never"

Nick definitely delivers with his first solo album. In "Now Or Never" Nick shows off his vocal talents in a wide assortment of musical genres. From the pop sound of "Help Me" to the rock sound of "Girls In The USA" to the sultry sound of "Do I Have To Cry For You." I would have to say that my favourite song on this album is "Who Nees The World" because all it is Nick and an accoustic guitar and you can really hear and feel Nick's passion for his music. I would definitely recommend this album and if you are a true Nick Carter fan this is one you don't want to miss out on. The bonus limited edition dvd is also a great plus. One of the things conatained on the dvd is the full length video "Help Me." What else does the dvd contain? Well, you will just have to find out for yourself when you get "Now Or Never" by Nick Carter. I will tell you that if you love Nick, you will definitely love the bonus limited edition dvd!!!!

    Now or Never [Bonus DVD]

Being a major BSB fan, I was psyched to hear Nick Carter was coming out with a solo CD. When I heard the first single "Help Me" I automatically knew I would love the CD. When I got the CD and listened to it, I was shocked by how much more I loved it than I expected to. Nick proves himself to be a fantastic star, as we all know he is, with his writing skills infused with rock-driven guitars, drums, and raw vocals. The bonus DVD is even better including personal interviews, recording sessions, video, and of course pictures of the hearthrob. Could it get any better?

    rock on

He might be part of the biggest boy band but The backstreet boy knows how to rock the house. Nick Carter's new cd, NOW OR NEVER will definetly surprise you. The cd starts with the rocky «Help me» which is the first single out from the cd.«Help me» will make you want to hear more and want to know what this new rock star is about.«My confession»fallows and will take you to another level. This one was co-written by Carter who confesses his love for a girl «who's floating into space» but hold on Nick Carter's not all about love, with «I stand for you» he tells us he wants to party and turn into a bad boy ! Carter sings his heart out on the next track, possibly the second single called «Do I have to cry for you».The song is one of the best on the album, he sings it with such passion and you can definetly feel the pain through his interpretation.Next stop, «girls in the USA» featuring Mr.Vegas.Get yourself ready to dance and wherever you are, you're one of his girl!«I got you» then shows a different side of Carter's voice, next is «Is it saturday yet?» which is kind of a rock-techno song and listen to the lyrics it will surely make you laugh!«Blow your mind» fallows. It's a song with a «hard rock» feel and was written by Max Martin , best know for his pop songs (Britney Spears, Backstreet boys), «Miss America» is no doubt the best song on the album, it brings a sexy, flirty side to the cd.«I just wanna take you home» is a song where you can definetly see the pop influence still in Carter but with a remakable evolution. The two last songs, «Heart without a home» and «Who needs the world» are nice slow songs where you can see NIck Carter's vocals at their best.Overall, I'd give a 15 on 10 if I could. Nick Carter definetly found his range and rock fits him perfectly.ROCK ON NICK!

SO GOOD THERE ISNT A WORD FOR IT!

Nick has defently set a bar for going solo. Even with the critics telling him he was just another 'boy band' mistake, he has been able to change that turn his talent into hard core rock! With the mix of old school flavor 'Girls in the usa' to his more soft side blaets 'who needs the world' I congradulate Nick on an amzing cd. Its one cd that I was able to have both my parents liston to and actually enjoy. Its a defent must in anyones cd collection

    Best album of the year!!

I seriously think Nick Carter's solo debut, 'Now Or Never', is the best album of the year! It's 80's rock combined with today's sugary pop. Influenced by artists like Bryan Adams, Linkin Park, and Journey, Nick's album is about the personal struggles he's been going through over the past few years. Stand-out tracks include the first single, "Help Me", "My Confession", "Do I Have To Cry For You", "I Stand For You", "Blow Your Mind", and "Heart Without A Home (I'll Be Yours)". Nick co-wrote more than half the songs on this album as well as playing the guitar and drums on some of the tracks. His unique vocals shines on this album and writing skills as well. This album is very personal to Nick and not all about sex. If you're a Nick Carter fan, then you won't be disappointed, unless you're thinking this will be another BSB album...which it doesn't sound like at all. The bonus DVD is also great, and includes the video of "Help Me", the making of the video (MTV version), some performances in Stockholm, interviews, photos, and more. I highly recommend 'Now Or Never'!

    Hiding All Along...

...behind the rest of the Backstreet Boys was an incredible rock artist just dying to get out. Nick leads the album with an acoustic flair, lending credit to the 80's- the generation he and his many of his fans grew up in. His voice was much noted with the boys, but until now, we have not had the opportunity to see how far he can go with lead vocals. Nick's new band has a rich sound that spans genres and satisfies listeners from all over. The album offers variety---and every flavor is good. From acoustic rock like "Help Me", to punk sounding "I Just Want To Take You Home", to playful "Is It Saturday Yet", to 80's driven heart-pumping "Blow Your Mind", to sexy and provocative "Miss America" and even remembering his roots with backstreet-like ballad "Do I Have To Cry For You", both lyrically and musically, this album deserves all 5 stars and beyond.
