Overview

If bluegrass music is experiencing a surge in popularity of late that it hasn't seen in several decades, no small credit -- make that considerable credit -- goes to Alison Krauss and her peerless band, Union Station. Not even in her teens when she started her stellar career, Krauss has made a habit of flouting stodgy bluegrass conventions by applying her crystalline soprano voice and award-winning fiddle playing to risky covers of songs from the world of pop and rock music. But that doesn't mean she's disrespectful of the tradition. Now That I've Found You offers the best tracks from Krauss's first five albums, plus songs from other projects and previously unreleased material. Highlights include a radiant version of the Beatles' "I Will," recorded with banjo man Tony Furtado; the gospelish "When God Dips His Pen of Love in My Heart," recorded with the Cox Family; and two previously unreleased gems, a lovely, lilting take on the Foundations' infectious Top 20 hit from 1968, "Baby, Now That I've Found You," and a bluesy interpretation of Bad Company's "Oh Atlanta." Risky stuff but beautifully done.

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Alison Krauss had been recording a decade before she gained stardom, but she became a star in a big way. Now That I've Found You: A Collection, a retrospective of her ten-year recording career for Rounder, became the surprise hit of 1995, rocketing to number two on the country charts and into the Top 15 on the pop charts, which is remarkable for a musician who had never captured the attention of a mass audience. It may have been a surprising success, but it also was deserved. Krauss was arguably the leading bluegrass musician of the late '80s and early '90s, pushing the music into new directions without losing sight of its roots. Now That I've Found You does a splendid job of chronicling her career, hitting all of the highlights and making a new listener eager to seek out her albums.

This retrospective brought Krauss into the mainstream from her genre of bluegrass. Every track showcases her lovely voice. The only thing that keeps me from giving it 5 stars is its brevity. Surely a couple more tracks could have been added to push it over 50 minutes. That complaint aside, Alison has used the fame and clout Now That I've Found You brought her to make some very adventurous music instead of becoming Ms. Superstar. Try her live disc with Union Station for a glimpse of her leading her great band.

Having grown up exposed to many types of music, I have a deep respect for the artist that can combine an original yet traditional sound with a voice that soothes the soul. Allison Krauss carries it beautifully, giving the listener the full range of her voice, instrumental abilities and originality that truly makes her unique.

This is the best album that I have heard in ages. I love her voice and the music really moves me. I love to hear her voice and to hear her play the fiddle. She is really awesome. The Union Station band is great as well, they really go well with Allison.

I normally hate country, but awhile back, my biology teacher was playing the cd Now that I've found you:a collection, and ever since then Ive been downloading different songs everyday! I really love her music! Its the most relaxing music to listen to and I can relate to some of the things she says in her songs! My favorite ones I don't believe You've met my Baby and I will, I wish everyone sang like her!

I am a huge fan of Alison Krauss. I love all of her albums! This one especially is a great cd to have. Her one of a kind voice mixed with Union Station's playing, makes for a great album. My favorite song is When You Say Nothing At All. She really does the song justice.

Although some of the sad love songs get a little redundant, this is a great album. The songs are fun and great to sing along to--especially "When God dips His Love"--and pretty--especially "Baby, now that I found you."

I had this tape, then got the CD, and now they are both worn out and will not play. I have been going out of my mind trying to find it and no one carries it any more. I have a huge music collection with just about every artist and type of music there is, but this girl, and this album just knocks me dead. If you have it, make a copy, if you don't have it, find it, then make a copy. You will enjoy this a lot.

Great standards, solid originals, and the clear strong voice to honestly put them across. Whether you're a Country or a Pop fan or not, it's easy to appreciate this music. - www.jafguitar.com
