Overview

The Now That's What I Call Music! series turns its attention to pop music of the past with this compilation of '80s hits. Now That's What I Call the 80s plays just like you'd expect a Now collection of '80s songs to, serving up the decade's biggest, most obvious hits from its definitive stars and styles. That's far from a bad thing, though -- aside from Prince's glaring omission, the album packs in a lot of favorite '80s songs, including Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean," Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun," and Tears for Fears' "Everybody Wants to Rule the World." Obviously, it's not an in-depth compilation, but Now That's What I Call the 80s is fine for anyone who just wants a sampling of the decade's quintessential tracks.

I was surprised that they did a Now '80s compilation, even though they're more focused on current 2007-2008 hits. This is a dream collection of the best songs from the '80s. Michael Jackson was the right one to start it off with Billie Jean and after that is a nonstop party collection of hits from Cyndi Lauper to The Fixx to Simple Minds to Wham! to Whitesnake to Rick Springfield to Heart to Bryan Adams to Herbie Hancock's Rockit to Bonnie Tyler and so forth! I still love these records a good 20 to 25 years later! They still sound fresh to this day! But keep in mind that I also listen to these songs in a current way, such as, How would these songs sound today in 2008? Not reduce myself to nostalgia tactics. The CD is well mastered and crisp with the sounds! For the '80s listeners, please get multiple copies for your friends. For today's audiences so fixed into Rihanna, Lil' Wayne, Ashlee Simpson, Alicia Keys and Miley Cyrus, here is a chance to hear these artists' musical influences. It's not all slick sounds that they're into. Yes, some big names they left out, but this is the best '80s collection that I've seen in recent times!

What? No Madonna or Prince? Something is seriously missing here. I know it's difficult to get all songs onto one disc, but, come on!
