Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

"Listeners in all types of marriages will be encouraged by this winning relationship guide from speaker and author Gary Chapman. Extending the practical wisdom found in his "love languages" books, he explains how to create all the types of intimacy that a strong marriage needs. Chapman's Christian foundations are obvious, but it's the sophistication and helpfulness of his thinking that are the most memorable characteristics of his work. He offers outstanding insights and advice on communication styles that are too passive, too domineering or critical, too logical or emotionally blunted, and too avoidant or unresponsive. Chapman's enjoyable speaking style is down-to-earth. He's a comfortable and humble authority who takes a backseat to his faith and to a plethora of immensely useful ideas."

    I Also Recommend:

    All-In-One!

I had read Gary Chapman's many other titles before I ran across this one, only because it was just recently published last year when I stumbled across it. This book is great! It takes many of his titles (i.e. Five Languages of Love, Four Seasons of Marriage, Covenant Marriage, etc) & put them in one quick reference guide. It serves as a great spin off into deeper research (thus buying the individual topic books). This also is on our mini "arsenal" for newly weds & in our permanent library. I am disappointed though, that the His & Her companion workbooks are not available. I bought this book in a kit with those workbooks & a DVD. This would be a great couples Bible Study as well, with the workbooks of course.

The secret of successful marriage is communication. Communicatio

The secret of successful marriage is communication. Communication is the blood veins of the marriage, ensuring that every element receives nourishment, refreshment and protection. With Jesus Christ as the heart of the marriage, He ensures that the marriage continues to have life. However, when communication is severed, some elements begin to lack food and oxygen and they begin to die.

Dr. Gary Chapman is the award winning, multimillion bestselling author of several books on marriage, including the critically acclaimed The 5 Love Languages® series. In his latest offering, Now You're Speaking My Language, Dr. Chapman addresses the importance of communication in marriage.

They are different levels of communication in marriage, understanding each level helps in ensuring that we strive for the highest level of communication that can nurture intimacy in marriage. Dr. Chapman also discusses the types of communication common in marriages which are wrong, but many people have adopted since they have been modelled for them as they grew up by the people they loved. Finally, Dr. Chapman devotes the rest of the book on the importance and development or facilitation of intimacy in marriage.

    My Recommendation

Reading this book and discussing the key things I learnt with my wife, did not only expose the deficiencies in communication we had, but helped me with a starting point. We have been married for only three years, but our communication was terrible, we discovered. The most important lesson we learnt was, in order for our communication with each other to improve, our communication with God have to improve first. I recommend this book to anyone married or planning to get married. This book is a great resource for couple's meetings.
