Overview

A jaded Chicago reporter in her twenties unexpectedly finds love in Napa Valley when she’s assigned to spend a week with a famously reclusive genius in this rich and deeply satisfying contemporary romance by the USA TODAY bestselling author of Sweet Thing.

Kate Corbin has lost her spark. A year ago, she had a handsome boyfriend and a budding career as a reporter at a popular Chicago newspaper. But after the woman who raised her passed away, leaving her lost and alone, she fell into a rut—and never got out. Now she’s stuck writing fluff pieces about lipstick and wine, and feeling trapped in a relationship that’s going nowhere.

Trusting that the hungry, ace reporter is buried somewhere deep inside, Kate’s boss and mentor gives her the opportunity to jump-start her career. The assignment: spend a week interviewing R. J. Lawson, a famously reclusive tech genius who disappeared years ago but recently reemerged as the owner of a well-respected Napa Valley winery.

Kate jumps at the chance, but the trip begins in disaster, both personally and professionally. After alienating R.J., her only saving grace is Jamie, a charming vineyard hand who shows her the beauty of wine country—and stirs her aching heart. It doesn’t take long for Kate and Jamie to fall hard, and for Kate to rethink her life in the city. But the week ends with a heartbreaking journey back to Chicago that sends Kate reeling, wondering what went wrong in those four perfect days.

Nowhere but Here is the first book I have read by Renee Carlino, but it certainly won't be my last.  In a world filled with contemporary romance Carlino has written a beautiful story that has that special something-something that just makes it stand out from the crowd.   Kate Corbin is a reporter.  She has believed for far too long that the only person she can count on is herself.  She's been made to feel that she's not special, and loss and grief has caused her to close off her heart to love out of fear.  This has caused her to lose that "spark" that made her writing special.  Her boss, however, hasn't given up on her, so when she finds out her assignment to interview the reclusive R.J. Lawson, she is more than shocked, because it's a really important assignment.  Upon arrival at Napa Valley, she "runs into" Jamie, literally, and immediately finds him to bring out more than just her temper.  Jamie is one of those guys that grabs your heart from the get go.  He's sexy, rugged, has a great sense of humor, and the fact that he is really pleasant to look at doesn't hurt either.  The chemistry between these two is electric, and they immediately hit it off.  Unfortunately, the same can't be said when Kate meets R.J. Lawson.  Nevertheless, she loves the staff, and Jamie, well he manages to bring something out in Kate that she didn't even know she was missing.  I loved the banter between these two.  The romance was sweet, swoon-worthy, and sizzling at times.  Jamie has a secret, and while I figured it out early on, it did absolutely nothing to take away from the book at all.  When a situation arises that causes misunderstanding and hurt, everything that Kate dreamed may be possible is shattered, and any hopes of a relationship that would result in a happily ever after ending is quickly crushed, at least in Kate's mind.  Jamie, however, is determined to win her back, but are his efforts too little too late? Nowhere but Here is a beautifully written story that contains all the ingredients that make for a perfect romance all nicely blended together, creating a wonderful story, with characters that you will love and root for, romance that warms your heart and causes you to smile, while at the same time bringing that spark that will make you fan your face at times.  If you are a contemporary romance fan, then Nowhere but Here is one of those books you will be glad you took the time to read and I definitely recommend it.

3.5 Stars. This book wasn't has gripping as ptevious books. The tempo was kinda flat, and too sedate. The story oh Kate and Matt was okay, maybe too shallow, so many different sub-stories going on. Wasn't my fav... Still love the author. LOVETOREAD

One of my favorite quotes from the book is "To exist in each other's souls so strongly that you are bound without a physical tie is the greatest mark of love". This author shows how love really is and explains it in great detail. My imagination went sky high as I read this book, I just couldn't put it down. Just the thought of Jamie and his boyish, romantic ways just give me butterflies, thinking of him makes me wish I was katy. ??

This book was so romantic and funny I couldn't put it down. I read this while home on Christmas break from college and every page made me miss my boyfriend more and more. The book literally made me love him and miss him more than I already did. Must read!!

It was just okay for me! I love this authors 1st book, but this for me fell short! I could't really feel the strong connection with the characters and I didn't really get that sqwee heart ache feeling either! I just guess I really couldn't connect with the characers and Kate got on my nerves most ot the book! Too much insta love and a lot of silliness for me!

Although Nowhere but Here was a bit of a let down after reading Sweet Thing, the book quickly captured my attention. It has an interesting plot and would have made a fantastic book, but author Renee Carlino did not deliver as adequately as I expected. The dialogue seemed forced at times and the language was not as refined as Sweet Thing, however I looked past that and loved the beautiful and honest story. At times the book was a bit too perfect, but no page was predictable.

OMG I loved this book so  much!!  Such an amazingly sweet, heartwarming, love story! "Nowhere but Here" is such a beautifully written romance novel. After reading this book, I can say I was extremely content! I was left wanting more, but only because I loved seeing the main couple together, and not because I felt empty or ripped off. One of the best contemporary romances of the year, in my opinion!! This review will be as spoiler free as I can make it because everyone should just experience the beauty of it themselves.  First of all, nothing was lacking in the romance department. I don't know about you, but I appreciate the romance and love between the main couple a little more than the twist and the outcome of the twist itself and how it affects the main couple -sometimes I want more than angst and drama, (especially when it's all over). The relationship between Kate an Jamie was amazing. There were so many sweet moments between the two and their conversations had me laughing out loud!! To me, this book was so much MORE than a romance. I love when a book is so much more than just a love story, but somehow doesn't feel as if it's lacking in the love department - there were enough romantic scenes to keep a romance reader satisfied, and I'm not just talking about the love scenes. This  story also included the importance of family, related or not. It was about Kate finding herself after feeling lost and alone for so many years. Kate's transformation and how she was able to find herself was so realistic and beautiful!! There were many characters in this story that were part of Kate's journey to find herself, and that was one of the best parts about this story. We witness Kate slowly put the pieces together of who she was meant be as a person and finally get everything she always wanted in life and be truly happy at the same time. And I have to say once again...it was beautiful!!!! There are two twists in this book, which I did NOT predict and I think the reason for this is that I got so caught up in Kate's life and the amazing writing that I was not focused too much on being detective.  I thought the first half was amazing, but it turns out, the story  just got better and better. Jamie was the star character in this for me -He was such a lovable, supportive human being and his love for Kate was real and never-ending. The little things he did for Kate throughout the entire novel is worth the read in and of itself-- It will have you swooning over and over again. "Nowhere But Here" was easily one of my top favorite contemporary romance novels. In fact it was MORE than that!! I enjoyed this novel so much that I will definitely re-read this one day just to experience it more than once because it was THAT good! :)

Renee Carlino's Sweet Thing was a wonderful surprise for me in 2013. That sweeping story of a young woman finding her way and the man who waited for her all along is a story I will never forget. When I learned Carlino was set to release a new novel, my choice to take another journey with her characters was an absolute no-brainer. Spoiler alert: I really enjoyed Nowhere But Here. Kate Corbin is in a rut. She's stuck in place with a job she no longer finds inspiring, a boyfriend who's barely significant, she's lost since the passing of the woman who helped raise her after her mother's death. Kate feels completely alone in the world, and truly believes she'll never be able to rely on anyone else. A chance at a career-changing story of a reclusive genius and the vineyard he owns is the impetus that begins to bring Kate out of her rut. Jamie, a charming and mysterious man who works at the vineyard, makes Kate fly. He shows her beauty and kindness, passion and belief that love is there for her taking. Jamie is an utterly charming, kind, mysterious man. I didn't really want to go into comparing Jamie to Sweet Thing's Will Ryan (!!!). but cant help myself. I really adored Jamie for the same reasons Will is one of my favorite characters ever. It's that charm! And the boyish intensity. That staggering capacity for love these man carry. I love it. There's no doubt Carlino has a talent for writing fantastic, lovable men. It's also very obvious there's more going on with Jamie than it appears. I formed an opinion on that right way, was positive I was on the right track with him. Was I right? I was, and that's okay. This big secret made a lot of sense, held my attention, and helped bring necessary tension to the story. In the beginning, had a bit of a struggle feeling Nowhere But Here out. I did feel that the connection between Jamie and Kate wasn't given the time to develop in a way that sold it to me right away. Don't get me wrong, it was romantic, but felt somewhat rushed for me. But... once that initial rush and passion is given a chance to settle, when the fantasy of Kate's escape from her life blends with the realities of their lives, the relationship is given the chance it needs to become stronger and that is what sold me on Jamie and Kate. It also doesn't hurt that Jamie is the sweetest, most patient and understanding guy ever. Oh! You know who I was surprised to see in Nowhere But Here? WILL RYAN! I was very pleasantly surprised to get a little bit of crossover from Sweet Thing's Will and Mia. It did good things for my heart. Nowhere But Here has a very understated, thoughtful tone. It's a foodie and wine lover's dream. A story for those looking for a whirlwind romance and a love story that's bigger than both Kate and Jamie. This is a story that has continued to stay on my mind, and my appreciation has continued to grow. Like Sweet Thing, I could feel Renee Carlino's passion for her characters and their story in every word. It's a wonderful feeling when you find an author who can translate that passion into an experience for readers. Favorite Quotes "I live on the property." "Here?" I motioned around the room. "No, I live in..." He laughed a little before speaking again. "I live in the barn." "You live in the barn?" My eyes went wide. "It's a really nice barn, okay?" he said in a low voice. There was something about the way he said it that made my fingers tingle, like he was promising me something--and invitation perhaps.

This is beautiful love story.  It is the story of believing and giving love a chance. It's jumping off the cliff into the cold water.  The story of Jamie and Katy is a beautiful journey you will want to watch.  Purchase this book. You won't be sorry!!!

A wonderful, beautiful story that will touch every part of your heart!!!  This  book was just plain perfect. My favorite quote: “I’ve been looking for the same thing most of us are looking for.” “What’s that?” “Someone to come home to.”  A must READ!!!

I just couldn’t stop crying while reading this book. I don’t know why. I think I have a problem. Maybe I need to go see my Optometrist. Yo, Carlino, this is your goddamn fault. I’ll send you the bill. I really loved this book. And I can’t believe I’m gonna say this, but I will. This book is even better than Sweet Thing, and that's saying something. I can honestly say that Carlino’s writing is brilliant and mean it with all my heart. She doesn’t create beautiful characters with blah eyes, blah hair, rippling muscles. No. She doesn’t make perfect characters is what I’m trying to say. She makes lovable characters who are witty, quirky and have weird habits. If Jamie looked like an ugly chimpanzee, I would still love him. Because he was adorable. I mean his heart was adorable. Am I making sense? And now I'm beating myself up because I read it so fast. I wish I read more slowly, savored it. But I couldn't. I was like a goddamn machine.I don't even know how I managed to read through all the freaking tears. It was like a waterfall. I was reading everything Jamie said a million times. I was laughing my ass off at Kate. She was so hilarious. I loved everyone in this book. There wasn't a slutty ex trying to steal Jamie away or a stalker jealous ex trying to beat Kate up. No. And Carlino didn't go around describing everyone as beautiful, perfect and nice with kind eyes, yada yada yada. Everyone in this book had a thing that made them who they were. Sometimes when I read books with a lot of secondary characters, I get really confused because everyone is described as gorgeous, beautiful, perfect, etc. This story, in my opinion, was about a woman who lost the only family she'd ever known. She was alone, lonely. She wanted to come home to someone, for someone to come home to her. I'm not gonna do a summary or review it. These are just my thoughts on this book. I loved it. I lived it. I felt like I was right there with Kate, cheering her on, laughing with her, crying with her. And now, I feel like I lost my best friend. I can't gush enough about this book. I wish I had it in paperback so I could smell it and love it and sleep with it. I'm in love.

I read romance books. Obviously. Some speak to me a bit louder than others. This one not only spoke to me, but reminded me that love does exist. Nowhere but Here was put in my hands at just the right time and I'm so glad I got to experience Kate and Jamie's story.  The setting in Napa Valley, was gorgeous. Having been there, I could visualize what Kate likely saw. It's romantic, naturally beautiful and can quite simple take your breath away. Add in a sweet, sexy man...gold. Like Kate, I fell for Jamie, but what really made the story was the way Jamie fell for Kate. Sure, they had issues and certainly some truly terrifying circumstances to overcome, but Jamie loved Kate with all he had.  I could sit here and recap the story, but the thing is that the story just consumed me and all I know is how I felt during and after reading it. I felt hopeful. I even had that butterfly feeling in the belly that you get when read something truly beautiful. It also reminded me that we aren't alone in this life, even when we feel that we are. Kate and Jamie both learned a lot about themselves from their relationship and it made them stronger individually and together.  Overall, I really loved this story. It was beautifully written and I could clearly picture the scenes while reading. I love that. It makes the story come alive. I would like to mention that I loved the tie in with Will and Mia. It was only for a brief moment, but I loved it!  Would I recommend this one? I most definitely would. Romantics of the world, you will want this on your kindle come release day! Quotes: ~"Food is like love, you know?" "Yes," I said breathlessly.  "We need it to stay alive." "Uh-huh." "And wine is like poetry."-Loc 1042 ~"Katy, I want to kiss you like that every second of the day, even in my sleep."-Loc 1582 ~"There's nowhere but here. Nothing else matters, you have to see that."-Loc 3015

“I woke up when I met Jamie. The world became louder, crazier, more exciting, and more achingly beautiful.” This. This is exactly how I felt about Jamie. Not only did Kate (his Katy) wake up, I did too. Jamie is one of my favorite book boyfriends – from his sweet and sexy nature to his vulnerabilities. I was a goner. Right in the beginning, Kate’s voice shines through the pages. I could feel her pain, her loss, and her depression. It was so easy to relate to her and that helped me connect with her story. Jamie barrels into her life (okay, she kind of does that to him…) and captures her attention and attraction when Kate goes to interview R.J. Lawson, the reclusive genius, who owns the winery where Jamie works. I loved how Kate doesn’t pull punches with R.J. when she meets him and has a backbone. Life threw her some curve balls but she’s still strong in many ways. Jamie and the beauty of the vineyard brings that out even more. Renee Carlino has a beautiful, poetic way with words. I felt the same way with Sweet Thing and Sweet Little Thing. (I'd be remiss to not add I loved the inclusion of Will and Mia in this story! <3 ) It’s as if the story is more lyrics than manuscript. I love that about her writing along with the elements of fate and interconnectedness that are woven in, using secondary characters to enrich the story even further. Just Bob stole a big piece of my heart and if I rode the train every day, I’d hope to find someone like him to listen to share his wisdom. One thing in particular that had me turning pages and staying up late to read Nowhere But Here was the unexpected twist to the story. I was reading merrily along thinking it was following a more traditional storyline when I was hit with a part I didn’t see coming. It added so much more to the story. My heart ached for Kate and Jamie; for the hurdles they had to face; for the misunderstandings and the consequences. Yet, all of those combined with all of the other moments make this a must-read for me. Copy gifted for honest review
