This is a wonderful, well-written book about the nursing profession and the dedicated people in it. Brown knows nursing and writes with compassion and clarity, telling it like it is. Covering mainly hospital nursing in its various departments (i.e., ER, MED/SURG, Labor & Delivery), Brown fills his book with stories of the daily ups and downs of nursing, its frustrations and satisfactions as seen and lived through the experience of real nurses, from students to veterans. He keeps medical jargon to a minimum, explaining abbreviations, slang, and acronyms in the text. Far superior to Jane Carpineto's R.N.     Discouraging

    I read this book in its entirety in one day. I was trying to find at least one positive thing about the nursing profession, but there was none to be found. The book described instance after instance of nurses being mistreated. I am now reconsidering my choice of a profession.
