From The CriticsReviewer: Amy Coenen, PhD, RN, CS (Marquette University College of Nursing)
Description: This is the fifth edition of a nursing care plan book. The book describes the NANDA nursing diagnoses with corresponding outcomes and interventions for each diagnosis. The book is a helpful resource for planning care and documenting the nursing process.
Purpose: The purpose is to aid the practitioner and student nurse in identifying outcomes and interventions commonly associated with specific nursing diagnoses.
Audience: The handbook can serve as a reference for nurses and nursing students to plan, evaluate, and document care. It is not targeted at one specialty area, but rather can be used by nurses in all types of specialties and settings.
Features: The book is clearly organized, allowing nurses to access information by either NANDA diagnosis or disorder/health problem. The spiral binding and compact size make the book a user-friendly resource.
Assessment: This handbook is a valuable tool for nurses and nursing students when planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized care. This new edition includes the most recent NANDA nursing diagnoses as well as the Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC) domain and class labels linked with specific nursing diagnoses. In addition to assisting the nurse in applying and documenting the nursing process, the book helps nurses become more familiar with the current NANDA-approved list of diagnoses and the NIC. The book is appropriate for practitioners and students as well as educators. It would be a valuable resource for healthcare facilities and a welcome addition to nursing education libraries.
