Description: This is the fifth edition of a quick reference guide to common laboratory and diagnostic tests incorporating the expanded role of nurses. The previous edition was published in 2006.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a resource that integrates the expanded role of the nurse in providing safe diagnostic care.
Audience: The intended audience is students, paramedical personnel, clinicians and nurses.
Features: This book places the emphasis on the expanded role of the nurse in diagnostic care and services. Each chapter begins with a section on nursing practice standards and nursing responsibility. Another important feature is the inclusion of nursing responsibilities in settings other than acute care, e.g., home care, long term care, and even the homeless environment.
Assessment: The authors provide in this revision the essential information students and clinicians will need to safely provide diagnostic care to patients in a variety of care settings. It is a well-organized and worthwhile resource.
