There is a reason why this is called Nursing Essentials. It is meant to be a basic reference and not a complete course in Nursing. It is best suited for student nurses, nurses who float to units they do not normally work on, and home health nurses who work with a wide range of medical conditions. Some areas are quite good in terms of covering a more complete review of the essentials - like Cardiology, others are not as good - like Mental Health. Some of the major shortcomings include.... The lack of major side effects for drugs listed - as well as basic nursing considerations for them. A chart of drug interactions - highlighting the complications that can arise when certain meds are given together would be nice to have. If you want to access the info on Pediatrics, you have to either search for it, or you need to look under the section for 'Calculators!!!' Pediatric info really needs to.have its own section. (At first I thought this section was missing until the vendor replied to my email asking about this info.) Not all graphics are zoomable. This would be a very helpful feature for future editions - the abilty to expand the info with touch. One group who could benefit from this sort of reference are older nurses (like myself) who are faced with a need to return to ateas of nursing we may not have worked in for many years. Some of us simply do.not have the vision clarity we once did when it comes to reading small print. (A major reason why I bought my Nook Color.) Another feature that would be appreciated in future editions would be a dictionary of medial terms that would allow for linking to a highlighted word in the text. And another desirable feature would be the inclusion of hyperlinks to allow for quick connections to related info found elsewhere in the text. Price? I do not consider $10 too high a price for this kind of reference. A lower cost would be nice, but I have paid much more for physical reference books on this topic. None of which are as portable as this one. Following my email communication with the vendor, I am of the belief that they really are interested in improving and expanding future editions based on constructive feedback from users. While I certainly would like this reference to be more than it currently is, I consider it a worthwhile investment for those areas where it serves its goals the best. The two areas that I would personally like to see addressed the quickest.... 1 - Giving Pediatrics its own section. (My current area of practice.) and 2 - A Major overhaul of the weakest section of the book - the section on Mental Health. ( My specialty area.)

Way to basic, not much info, not worth it. More for someone with no medical background.
