From The CriticsReviewer: Cynthia Lee Cummings, RN, MSN, EdD (University of North Florida Brooks College of Health)
Description: This encyclopedia of nursing leadership terms and concepts incorporates current ideas such as residency, rapid response teams, dedicated education units, etc. The first edition was published in 2008.
Purpose: It is intended as a reference of nursing leadership concepts.
Audience: The audience is anyone interested in leadership concepts, both undergraduate and graduate students.
Features: The encyclopedia covers a variety of ideas, from benchmarking and budgeting to dedicated education units, rapid response teams, magnet institutions, and even the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The best aspect of the book is that it encompasses a wide range of topics, with references, so that readers can continue to explore these areas. The only shortcoming may be that concepts are continually changing and new references developed, so this may need further updated editions.
Assessment: This is a worthwhile book that provides an easy guide to concepts and a quick reference for new leaders.
