Description: As with its previous editions, this book describes the steps of the research process and prepares readers to conduct research, but this edition includes an access code for an online component. The previous edition was published in 2008.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide researchers with the skills to conduct research as well as evaluate research reports and use the research evidence in practice.
Audience: The target audience is nursing students and nurse researchers. Both authors have a strong research background, including numerous publications.
Features: This book retains the same organizing format as the previous edition. Rather than include information on quantitative and qualitative methods throughout the chapters of the book, this edition does that in the early chapters, but it devotes one entire part to quantitative research and another to qualitative research. This edition includes new chapters on mixed methods. All chapters have been updated with the latest methodological information. Online student resources include PowerPoints with images, websites, statistical tables, a glossary, and journal articles. The full text is available online.
Assessment: This edition will continue to be useful to nursing students and nurse researchers. It remains an invaluable resource for conducting research.
