Description: This book covers current issues and trends facing nursing and healthcare and provides practical advice and tips for success as students transition to the role of the RN.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide graduating nurses with the knowledge and skills to successfully transition from the student nurse role to the RN role in both hospital and community settings.
Audience: The audience includes student nurses who are in their final semester before graduation. It can be used in transition courses or by individuals as they prepare for the role change from student to RN.
Features: The 26 chapters divided into six units covering professional growth and transition, career development, the developing profession of nursing, nursing management, current issues in healthcare, and contemporary nursing practice. Each chapter begins with student objectives and a quote that highlights the content of the chapter. Chapters also contain critical thinking boxes, creative cartoons, and thought-provoking questions. This edition has expanded material on nursing management and a new chapter on emergency preparedness. Included for faculty are a web-based instructor's manual, a test bank, and other instructional aids through Evolve.
Assessment: This is a very practical, easy to read book that has direct application to a student's transition to the role of the RN. It is enhanced by the expertise of the many contributors to the various chapters, all experts in their fields. I would suggest this is a must-read for all graduating senior nursing students.
