Kate gets in the most unpredictable, but in her case expected, predicaments that you can't wait for the next paragraph to find out what happens next.
Everyone around me always wonders what's going on when I start laughing my head off, no matter where I am. The laughs just hit you and you can't contain them!

    Pure enjoyment

I started reading Charlotte because I read the Full House series with Janet Evanovich. I read What looks like Crazy and could'nt wait for the next book and was not disappointed. I cannot wait until the next and hope the series last for a long time.

Charlotte and Janet are definitely friends

Reading this book was like reading one of Janet Evanovitch's. The same kind of crazy humor and characters, but since I like to read Evanovitch, this one kept me in stitches too.

    Better than the first one

I liked this book a lot. I think Hughes found her stride and I could relate more to the characters. In the first book the main character seems a bit whiny, but then Hughes delves more into her relationships and it makes a lot more sense, which I appreciated. I thought it was funny and original and I like that it takes place in Atlanta! :)

    I Also Recommend:

    Nutcase Is Funny and Touching

Kate Holly is an Atlanta Psychologist who has a few problems of her own. The book starts with a funny scene in which she herself is in therapy (couples therapy with her husband whom she accidentally divorced). She is using sex to avoid talking about her problems.

Like she is being evicted from her office, because one of her patients blew a hole in the wall, and so she has been considering sharing an office with her ex boyfriend, a psychiatrist. Also she is a little obsessive compulsive, and her wealthy volunteer receptionist is almost as much trouble as she is worth, although she makes a delightful friend. The plot centers on an arsonist who is targetting firefighters, a small problem for Kate because her ex (whom she still adores) is a firefighter.

As a psychologist I like to read fiction that includes my profession, and writer's like Kellerman and Hughes reflect the profession well. While Kellerman is more of a mystery writer both writers can keep you on the edge of your seat, but Charlotte is the only psychologist/fiction that I have read that has me rolling on the floor as well (laughing).

This book has so much fun and laughter it is easy to overlook (in this very easy read) how many touching scenes there are where Kate shows a depth of understanding and helpfulnness not always present in all my real psychologist colleagues. And while its clearly fiction and not overly realistic (real patients are rarely this entertaining) Charlotte Hughes does a very good job of conveying what goes on in therapy, and often gives some helpful interventions.

This is a must read book and can (will) be read in one or two sittings, as you would not be able to put it down once you start. It is the second book of the series, and stands by itself but makes you want to read them all.

    more from this reviewer

Charlotte Hughes writes a very jocular and charming romantic suspense

Psychologist Kate Holly is having a miserable week starting with the fact that her firefighting ex-husband Jay walked out on their first marriage counseling session. Although they still love one another deeply, she fears his occupation because her father was a firefighter who died in the line of duty; he is afraid of her job as some of her patients tend towards violence as proven by her need to find a new office after a nitro incident in her former shrink pad.

Her landlord is evicting her and she struggles to find a new location. Her ex-boyfriend, Dr. Thad Glazer asks her to join his practice, which a desperate Kate reluctantly accepts. Meanwhile she is worried sick about Jay who is dealing with a serial arsonist that can only mean more injuries from entering burning buildings. She councils a con man dating her secretary; works with a disassociative identity disorder person, and a teen accused of beating a collaborate press. Kate hopes Jay won¿t get hurt chasing down the arsonist while fearing he is involved with Mandy; he hopes she won¿t get hurt by one of her patients while fearing she is back with Thad.

Charlotte Hughes writes a very jocular and charming romantic suspense thriller filled with eccentric characters starting with the lead duo; supported by series regulars like her mom and secretary, Thad and Mandy and unconventional newcomers especially her patients. However with all these odd players, the zany story line is owned by Kate. She is tough as a shrew but vulnerable like a child; yet she is also strong but somewhat unconfident especially when it comes to dealing with the regulars in her life. Though the plot is thin, fans will enjoy this amusing zany tale starring an interesting individual.
