Description: The authors provide a resource that streamlines a great deal of information into a small compact, portable, and waterproof/reusable format. The information is clear, concise, practical, and easy to use in clinical environments.
Purpose: According to the preface, this was developed as a basic level resource to be used in clinical environments to include reusable assessment tools, dietary management for symptom control, English and Spanish food pyramids, cultural eating patterns, math conversions, diabetes protocol, BMI charts, selected RDAs, and enteral/parenteral feeding. The authors have accomplished their goal with this book..
Audience: The book can be used across the spectrum of nursing. Whether a student is in beginning courses, a graduate student is working in nurse practitioner programs, or a nurse is currently working in a multitude of clinical settings, this book has merit. The authors appear to be credible authorities on the subject of nutrition.
Features: The book relates information that is needed in everyday life within clinical environments. Whether it be basic information on client histories, assessments, or special nutritional information, the book provides plain usable information. It is very compact reference, with an easy design for use. More importantly, the fact that it is waterproof and reusable makes this book a worthwhile resource. A possible shortcoming might be a lack of references.
Assessment: Overall, this book is easy to use and provided solid information whether at the basic level, or more advanced level. Its useable format is an asset in both clinical and academic arenas. I intend to recommend this book for my students.
