Overview

Women's health and health education are key responsibilities of community nurses, yet there is a little relevant help available to the busy practitioner. This book therefore presents a companionable, practical and comprehensive source of information on the key nutritional issues that relate to women. Written by a dietician with community experience, it focuses on most of the common conditions which practice nurses, health visitors, midwives, dieticians and general practitioners may encounter or about which questions are asked by patients.

The book contains black-and-white illustrations.

Editorial Reviews

Neva L. Crogan
This is a resource book designed to assist the practitioner in giving dietary advice to women. The purpose is to bring together in one publication dietary intervention information that can be used by healthcare practitioners when treating or counseling female clients. Nutrition interventions are cost effective strategies in health promotion and prevention of illness. According to the author, this book was written for nurses, health visitors, midwives, dietitians, and general practitioners who are regularly involved in giving dietary advice to women. Actually, dietitians, primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, and health science students would benefit from this book. It consists of two-color tables and a limited number of illustrations. At the end of each chapter, key points are listed in table format. Key references follow each chapter. The book is organized in a systematic, easy-to-understand manner. Following most chapters, a sample seven-day menu is included. However, many items are specialty foods, and the recipes to prepare these items are not included. This is a good resource for healthcare practitioners who give dietary advice to women. It covers ten health care concerns and/or disease processes that are common to women. It is a clear, easy-to use book that is systematically organized. Chapter summaries and sample menus are provided at the end of each chapter. This is a much needed book that provides important information for practitioners in women's health.
