Overview

MURDER, CORRUPTION, RACISM AND SCANDAL: GIULIANI'S NYPD.
When a New York senator was issued a traffic ticket by a New York City cop, his call to a top-ranking member of the NYPD for a favor started a chain of events that resulted in the horrific murder of an innocent young woman, Bliss Verdon.

Police sergeant Charles Castro was singled out to be the scapegoat in a cover-up of the NYPD's role in the events that led to the murder. But, as a tough-as-nails cop, he had other ideas and was not about to roll over for the police brass.

Though it seems more like a Hollywood movie, this real-life story of Castro's efforts to prove his innocence is an unprecedented look at wanton acts of police misconduct and rampant corruption.

NYPD Blue Lies has it all: Castro's controversial ex-wife (also a cop) who posed for Playboy magazine; police executions ; gunfights; hostage-taking; backstabbing; gossip; brawling; group sex; racism... It's a darker side of New York's Finest, as well as a scathing look at America's Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Having served under three New York City mayors and a parade of police commissioners, Castro has come to recognize one common thread connecting them all: their utter lack of leadership for both the city they served and the heroes in blue they were sworn to command.

NYPD Exposed - Outstanding / Insightful / Personal

NYPD Blue Lies- I have read the book and know the author personally. I have shared some of his personal tragedies and victories. I know all the cases in the book and have personally worked on some of the cases highlighted and can attest to their FACTUALNESS. The story he tells is a personal one where you feel and sense the struggle and turmoil. Cops (or relative's of cops) will have one of three reactions: I understand because I went through the same thing, (2) I never saw any of this, [because they kept their heads in the sand,] or (3) declare the stories lies and racist, [ignoramuses and racist revealing themselves]. For the non-cop the book is insightful and revealing, exposing a perspective rarely disclosed publically. For working cops its gives a great understanding of past events, a framework for evaluating current situations, and a clear understanding of what can happen when you are a minority or no longer in favor (Caucasian included).

The many diverse reviews speak to the truthfulness of this book, what minority officers still experience and the racism that still exists in the NYPD. For the responsible reader this is a must read book that will engage all your senses. A must read from cover to cover.

Don't waste your money on this book!

Zero stars. A complete waste of money. This is one cops story of how everyone else is to blame for his bad decisions. The author completly leaves out how and what he was fired for. This book seems to be a personal pay back to everyone that he held a grudge against him. Not worth the money at all and you will learn nothing about the nypd and the great cops that work there. I read the book after reading the first couple of reviews. They were probably written by the only six friends this author has left after writing this book. There are much better books about the nypd out there. Scratch that. Any book about the nypd is better than this one.

    Highly Recommended

the book is explosive as we are all aware of the Blue Wall that the Police Department puts up when they are on the hot seat. The book gives a truthful inside look at the corruption in a department that we are told are here to serve and protect but go far beyond that scope and deceive the people. A must read.

    Great summer read

I found the book to be well written, fast paced, and highly provocative. In fact the worst thing I can say is that some of the things in the book are highly revealing and ultimately disturbing. I highly recommend it for those whom are interested in seeing what goes on sometimes in the darker corners behind the thin blue line. I admire the authors integrity, and courage.

    Highly recommended.

This is a must read book. Charles Castro, is my hero, he tells it as it,s. He expose's the New York City Police Department, and former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, for who they truly are, corrupt, and racist. He paid dearly for the position he took. It caused him not only his career, but pain and suffering as well. He stood up for justice, against a system that practiced corruption and racism, and for the most part, he stood alone. The utter lack of leadership on the part of both former Mayor Giuliani, and the New York City Police Department, has to be exposed, and it took the courage and leadership of Chares Castro to exposed them for who they really are, corrupt, and racist.I tip my hat to this unsung hero.

    MUST READ FOR LAWYERS

Do not even think about litigating a case against the NYPD until you read this book! Charlie Castro just might find himself in a new career as expert witness in section 1983 and discrimination cases against the police department. This book has a wealth of information, is exciting to read, and is an envaluable tool for litigators.

    This book was amazing!

This book is a must read for anyone interested in police stories or law enforcement. After reading this book I had a different opinion about Rudy Giuliani, the man preached one thing and did another. It is amazing that he allowed so many corrupt police officers to get away with horrible acts of corruption. The author, writes from the heart and does not hold any punches. I laughed, I almost cried and for the most part I was captivated by this true story. I highly recommend this book.

AWESOME EXPOSE OF POLICE CORRUPTION-POLITICS AND RACISM

Im not an NYPD officer but my father served 38 years with the NYPD and retired as a 1st grade Detective with Brooklyn North Homocide-and for the few times that he spoke about the job-the stories were no different than what charlie wrote in his bio-for those that have called charlie a liar-I have the honor to call charlie a friend and a man of integrity-I sat thru out the entire Federal civil trial of charlie castro against the city of new york and much of what is discussed in the book was brought up at trial so if the book is fiction then so was his federal trial Charlie great job on a book well written

Read it, you won't regret it!!

An Outstanding piece of reading. Although i am not a Police Officer I am a member of the Law Enforcement community in New York, employed by an agency that Discrimination and racisim is Standard Operating Procedure, therefore I can sympathize and understand what Charlie went through. In my eyes charlie didn't lose his job the NYPD lost a great Latino Police-Sergeant who clearly was an asset to the Department. I salute Charlie for his many years of Service in Protecting, Serving, and keeping the communities we live in safe, and most of all for exposing the truth and Corruption in the NYPD. I am very proud of you and it's a honor to know you and your family. Again, my hat comes off to you and what you stand for. I highly recommend this book and once you start reading it you won't be able to put it down.
