Overview

When NYPD Red arrives at a crime scene, everyone takes notice. Known as the protectors of the rich, famous, and connected, NYPD Red is the elite task force called in only for New York City's most high-profile crimes. And Detective Zach Jordan is the best of the best, a brilliant and relentless pursuer of justice. He puts professionalism above all, ignoring his feelings for his partner, Detective Kylie MacDonald, the woman who broke his heart when they first met in the academy.

But even with their top-notch training, Zach and Kylie aren't prepared for what they see when they're called to a crime scene in the heart of Central Park. They arrive to find a carousel spinning round and round, its painted horses grinning eerily in the early morning dark. There is only one rider: a brutally slaughtered woman, her body tied up and dressed in a Hazmat suit, on display for the world to see.

The victim, a woman of vast wealth and even greater connections, is the fourth in a string of shocking murders that have hit the city. As the public pressure mounts, and political and personal secrets of the highest order hang in the balance, Zach and Kylie must find out what's really behind the murderer's rampage. But Kylie has been acting strange recently—and Zach knows whatever she's hiding could threaten the biggest case of their careers.

NYPD Red 2 is the next outstanding novel in James Patterson's newest series, a thriller that careens through New York City and deep into the psyche of a depraved killer you've never seen before.

From Barnes & Noble

Each year, a quarter million riders spin round and round on Central Park's famed carousel, but the rider police found that night was different. She was dead, savagely murdered and strapped to the painted horse, the grisly advertisement a taunting serial killer. To find her killer, detectives Zach Jordan and Kylie McDonald must put aside their own differences and thorny past and pursue leads very, very quickly. Bound to be a number one bestseller.

Meet the Author

James Patterson has had more New York Times bestsellers than any other writer, ever, according to Guinness World Records. Since his first novel won the Edgar Award in 1977 James Patterson's books have sold more than 280 million copies. He is the author of the Alex Cross novels, the most popular detective series of the past twenty-five years, including Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider. Mr. Patterson also writes the bestselling Women's Murder Club novels, set in San Francisco, and the top-selling New York detective series of all time, featuring Detective Michael Bennett. He writes full-time and lives in Florida with his family.

Biography

James Patterson had been working as a very successful advertising copywriter when he decided to put his Masters degree in English to a somewhat different use. Inspired by bestselling hair-raising thrillers like The Day of the Jackal and The Exorcist, Patterson went to work on his first novel. Published in 1976, The Thomas Berryman Number established him as a writer of tightly constructed mysteries that move forward with the velocity of a bullet. For his startling debut, Patterson was awarded the prestigious Edgar Award for Best First Mystery Novel—an auspicious beginning to one of the most successful careers in publishing.

A string of gripping standalone mysteries followed, but it was the 1992 release of Along Came a Spider that elevated Patterson to superstar status. Introducing Alex Cross, a brilliant black police detective/forensic psychologist, the novel was the first installment in a series of bestselling thrillers that has proved to be a cash cow for the author and his publisher.

Examining Patterson's track record, it's obvious that he believes one good series deserves another…maybe even a third! In 2001, he debuted the Women's Murder Club with 1st to Die, a fast-paced thriller featuring four female crime fighters living in San Francisco—a homicide detective, a medical examiner, an assistant D.A., and a cub reporter. The successful series has continued with other numerically titled installments. Then, spinning off a set of characters from a previous novel (1998's When the Wind Blows), in 2005 he published Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment. Featuring a "flock" of genetically engineered flying children, the novel was a huge hit, especially with teen readers, and spawned a series of vastly popular fantasy adventures.

In addition to continuing his bestselling literary franchises, Patterson has also found time to co-author thrillers with other writers—including Peter de Jonge, Andrew Gross, Maxine Paetro, and Howard Roughan—and has even ventured into romance (Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas, Sam's Letters to Jennifer) and children's literature (santaKid). Writing at an astonishing pace, this prolific author has turned himself into a one-man publishing juggernaut, fulfilling his clearly stated ambition to become "the king of the page-turners."

Good To Know

Patterson's Suzanne's Diary For Nicholas was inspired by a diary his wife kept that tracked the development of their toddler son.

Two of Patterson's Alex Cross mysteries (Along Came a Spider and Kiss the Girls) have been turned into films starring Morgan Freeman; in 2007, a weekly television series premiered, based on the bestselling Women's Murder Club novels.

    HIGHLY ENTERTAINING!

An exciting and fast paced sequel to NYPD RED As expected, Patterson has written another best seller with the main charaters complimenting each other and adding a realistic insight to the human race, both in and out side the law Known for his short chapters, it left me wanting to read just one more~ and sincerely hoping that NYPD 3 is already in the works *****

    Page problems

I had to constantly manually turn the pages as they refused to do more than loop over and over again. That made reading the book frustrating and slower.

I loved it. Like most of James Patterson thrillers the chapters

I loved it. Like most of James Patterson thrillers the chapters are short so I never wanted to put it down, I kept saying I'll read one more chapter :-) I loved the detectives, Zach & Kylie. They are definitely very good friends and are there for each other through everything. I liked the dynamic of their relationship. I also liked the characters that were present in the background. This particular thriller really left me guessing and I was definitely surprised on more than one occassion.

NYPD Red2 by James Patterson and Marshall Karp brings Detective Zach Jordan and his partner, Detective Kylie MacDonald, to the front of the battle zone. NYPD Red is the task force of the stars, seeking resolution of crimes on the rich and famous. When sent to the scene of a murder, with a victim in full hazmat suit and placed on the city center's carousel, they know it is just the beginning. While this is not the first victim of a serial killer with a distinctive M.O., it is the first famous one. To add to the pressure of the case, they are also informed by the mayor that they must catch the killer before the quickly upcoming elections or he will lose for sure. But in their path there will be more hurdles, twists and outright surprises than they reckon. Is the mayor's fate in their hands or has he already dug his own hole?

I am never let down by anything written by James Patterson. He and Marshall Karp do not disappoint with their book, NYPD Red2. My book was audio, the volume turned up to classic rock level. With a commute of over 45 minutes, I found myself praying for heavy traffic and finding reasons to drive around the block. The intensity of the characters is shadowed only by the story's plot. These are people that one might possibly know in everyday life. I immensely enjoyed the visualization of each scene (not the grisly parts, although they were truly hard to "un-see"). What a great audio book to have on a road trip! Now I have to go back and find NYPD Red, the first book, and play them back to back!

    Restored my faith in Patterson

This book was great, really a page turner. It restored my faith in James Patterson as I felt his books were getting a bit lame.
