Harry Potter would approve.

    I LOVE CIRQUE DU SOLEIL

I really like CDS and I really want to read this book, but it's not in stock in any Barnes & Noble store near me, and that's depressing, because I can't shop online, so, that's a huge problem, but I already read Cirque du Soleil The Spark, and I love that book, and I guess I would love this one too :)

    Tough Ticket Revealed!

Whenever I have gone to Las Vegas for the last several years, people have told me to see the ¿O¿ show by Cirque du Soleil at the Bellagio. It has been sold out on each occasion, and the price quotations from ticket agents have been enormous. So I have yet to see the show. I knew that the show had something to do with water because ¿O¿ is a play on the French word for water ¿eau¿ which is pronounced the same way. But what would a circus be doing with water? Having seen this book, I can now see why the show has such tremendous appeal. This show is a work of astonishing imagination, wide dimensions, and subtle fantasy. As the writer and director, Franco Dragone says in the introduction, ¿Water. `O.¿ A human tale, I hope, somewhere between nature and the machine.¿ The gripping color photographs reveal a fantasy world in which every possible relationship to water occurs. At a minimum, water is there as a reflection of above-water activities. In other cases, the actors are partially submerged. Some of the ballet occurs totally under water. There is also synchronized swimming. Some scenes have a curtain behind them from which water drips. At other times, a trapeze appears mid-air over the water. A carousel permits dramatic activities in the air. Fire is also an important element. The props can be quite remarkable, including an upside-down umbrella boat. You will also see dramatic choreography, including one of the most interesting human pyramids I have ever seen photographed. Naturally, there are also traditional dance sequences including pas de deux. Having seen these remarkable tableaux, you will want to know more about how the effects were achieved. Some of the images show make-up and costumes being put on. The captions at the end also explain how the scenes were technically developed. For example, you will learn how the stage was created so that it could rapidly be flooded or danced upon. Naturally, you will wonder how all of this electricity can be operated safely around so much water, and there¿s a fine discussion of how these issues were handled. In addition to buying and enjoying this book, I recommend booking ahead to see the show and building your next trip to Las Vegas around this remarkable spectacle. I left this book thinking about where else I had seen nature enhanced by human artifice, and mentally drew a parallel to the lighting of Niagara Falls at night. What examples have you seen? Beautiful as the Show itself!!!!

I've seen 'O' at the Bellagio as well as some of the other Cirque du Soleil acts. This book is full of fantastic, colorful photos to bring back memories of the show itself. The poems aren't too bad themselves either. The back of the book has tons of info on the show 'O'...ie: fun facts and interesting insights of the planning behind the show. I highly recommend this book and never get tired of looking at the pictures.
