Barnes & Noble - David Sprague
Few bands have managed to survive 30 years together, much less continue to craft chart-toppers for the duration of such a period. Aerosmith are a prime example of that longevity, and this collection -- unlike previous compendiums of hits from the Beantown Boys -- covers the entire span of that career. Stretching back to the cocksure strut of early favorites like "Mama Kin" and "Walk This Way" which is represented in both its original form and the Run-D.M.C.-fortified remake, O Yeah! gives plenty of play to the edge that prompted many folks to dub Steven Tyler and company America's answer to the Stones. The double-disc set also spotlights the quintet's undying way with a power ballad, culling tunes like "Janie's Got a Gun" and "Amazing" from more recent times. The double-disc collection is rounded out by a pair of freshly recorded numbers -- "Girls of Summer" and "Lay It Down" -- that bode very well for the future of Boston's most potent export.
All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
As the sixth domestic Aerosmith hits collection and the first to feature selections from both their Columbia and Geffen years not to mention that it's the second double-disc retrospective released within eight months, The Ultimate Aerosmith Hits should live up to its title -- and it does, for the most part. Over the course of two discs and 30 songs, almost all the heavy-hitters are hauled out, from "Mama Kin" to "Jaded," including both versions of "Walk This Way." Some of the songs are presented in a remixed form -- "Draw the Line," "Pink," "Just Push Play" -- but all of the new mixes are good, possibly even improvements, and the new song, "Girls of Summer," is strong its companion, "Lay It Down," isn't as noteworthy. So, all the parts are in place -- why doesn't it feel definitive, then? After all, there are no big songs or hits missing apart from the cover of "Come Together," which isn't much of a loss, just fan favorites and album tracks like "Lord of the Thighs," "Lick and a Promise," and "Chip Away the Stone" and nothing from Done With Mirrors, for that matter. The reason it doesn't feel definitive is that the classic Columbia recordings are wrapped up by track ten, and then the best of their late-'80s comeback is wrapped up by the end of the first disc, which leaves disc two pretty much devoted to everything from Get a Grip on -- an era not widely considered their best, even though it had a number of hits, plus a couple of good songs along the way "Crying," "Deuces Are Wild". So, even though this delivers everything it should and will certainly be the one Aerosmith disc most casual listeners will need, it doesn't quite capture the essence of the band the way their greatest albums do whether they're Rocks or Pump.

O, Yeah! Ultimate Aerosmith IS the Ultimate---it rocks!!

I carefully chose "O, Yeah! Ultimate Aerosmith" as my first Aerosmith music to own. It was a good choice, and the 2-CD set contains 30 Super Hits of Aerosmith, an iconic band with its own totally unique and appealing sound. Songs include their classic early blockbuster hit "Walk This Way", the infectious "Back in the Saddle", and other hit songs including "Love in an Elevator", "The Other Side", and "Cryin". I play my Aerosmith trademark music on my portable CD player when I go for walks and it really is a stimulating and enjoyable way to get one's exercise for the day. The music will "carry you along" on the walk. If you get only one Aerosmith album, or if it's your first Aerosmith purchase, "O Yeah! Ultimate Aerosmith" will leave you fully happy with your purchase and uplifted by the energy of Aerosmith's one-of-a-kind tremendous music.

O, Yeah! Ultimate Aerosmith Hits Rocks!

This 2 disc package is really a must have if you are looking for some classic Aerosmith. Disc 1 has the old Aero feel, with the polished studio boarding, lound where it needs to be and supporting everywere else. Disc 2 also rocks, and it gets into some of the tunes with more reflective lyrics. The only change I would make is adding a few more songs, al least "No More, No More" and "Eat the Rich" but I'm sure the label wanted to give some incentive to buy other discs as well! All hail to America's Stones! xo ;)

If I wanted to listen to Run DMC I would buy their albums. Oh! Yeah! I can't believe you ruined a tremendous album by putting them on here.

Needed a couple more tracks but GREAT!

As a longtime Aerosmith fan ( and a hardcore one at that ) I find the disc set somehow amazingly refreshing. Mama Kin, the opener, sounds fresher---i'm sure they remixed that. Sweet Emotion was kept in its' original mix (not the new mix made a couple years back). I LOVE the 2 new songs. ''Girls of Summer'' floors me with that little ditty (''everybody's talkin' bout'') before the chorus. ''Lay It Down'' is reminiscent of ''Home Tonight'' from Rocks...still a power ballad but when Tyler sings the ''morning light...gonna be all right'' part it transforms itself into a classic 70's ballad...although a good solo would have fitted well in that song. Tracks left out I feel should be in: Movin' Out, Lick and A Promise, Chiquita, Get The Lead Out, No Surprize. These could have replaced ''What It Takes'' and ''Come Together''...Falling in Love has a longer intro than the original. They could've done something about the order of songs, intermixing new and old randomly. All in all, even though its' obviously tailor made for the casual listener (Toys in The Attic as a BONUS TRACK? Come on?), I still keep it on...Keep on Rocking. They have eclipsed the Stones in my point of view.

    This is the MASTER collection!

Aerosmith is running the risk of being mistaken for the Stones, with a new ''best of'' or ''live'' collection every 6 months. Well, I hope you waited, 'cause ''O, Yeah!'' is THE one to order. I have the original ''Greatest Hits'' CD,( not the remaster of the same disc) and did A-to-B comparisons of the common songs. ''O, Yeah!'' wipes the floor with that decade-plus old disc sonically. And even the relative new tunes sound better than their 80s and 90s album had them cut. Now the nicest suprise is the Radio-Remix of Just Push Play. It's a great tune on the CD of the same name with obscene lyrics. This ''clean'' version is better, with crisper percussion and vocal loops, and you can enjoy it with anyone in the house. The 2 new (obligatory to make fans buy it) songs at the end are BOTH great, despite what you might have read above. Especially ''Girls of Summer'' -- think Aerosmith meets ELO and Tom Petty and it works times 2! The remix of ''Pink'' is a vast improvement too. And the Run-DMC version of WTW is a nice suprise, as is the movie song ''Miss a Thing'' that I bought the single of, since the whole soundtrack tanks. I wish there were a remastered version of their cover of ''Come Together'' and maybe just a little more old CBS material; there's room, the discs come in at a little less than 70 minutes each! Next time boys, if its a collection lets give the fans another couple of songs (even new ones). But thanks for the MASTER remaster, and keeping it largely clean too!
