Overview

When Obama stated that if elected, he would keep his Blackberry, debate echoed through Washington and among the ranks of the Secret Service. What would it be like to have a president who could Twitter, send text messages, and navigate the web with ease? What would it be like to receive a text message from inside the Oval Office and, most importantly, what would it say?

Now, for the first time, We The People are privy to our new leader's epistolary back-and-forths on his wily hand-held device. We're about to discover that his emails (and the replies, from his wife and daughters, Biden, Palen, Rush, Hannity, the new first puppy, and even Bush) are so tuned in to the language of electronic correspondence they come hilariously close to the brink of legibility.

This giftable, imagined glimpse into Obama's beloved Blackberry traverses the mundane and momentous contours of the Commander in Chief's life, from security briefings to spam, basketball practice to domestic bliss, and the panic of oops-I-hit-reply-all, to, of course, the trauma of dealing with the First Mother In Law.

To wit:

BidenMyTime: Hey U, whatcha doin?
BARACKO: M rly busy BidenMyTime: Right :( Can I lv at 4:45?

    Quite funny...

My son bought this for his German/History teacher. It's political humor and quite funny. His teacher loved the gift.

    Too Much Information

"Obama's Blackberry" by Kasper Hauser is comedy extra-ordinary ranging from uncanny satire, to dry humor as the messages to and from the president reveal caricatures of political personalities. This was a light-hearted and fun compendium as a stress reliever from being too serious about the political players and roles, and, of course, the recession is a lovely backdrop. The author does not take himself seriously as he verbally roast entries with common personality traits and a general understanding of what is thought of these positions and their relationship to the president.

Amusing muse, sometimes obtuse, but always fun. I enjoyed it immensely, especially the choice of personalities and the varied subject matter. Since Obama is said to bring e-information into e-politics, I found it an appropriate, yet unique and ingenious presentation. Quite refreshing approach (communications via Blackberry) in an otherwise serious treatise (making fun of the national debt, the competence of office holders and their ability to focus on a subject of the nature of information brought to bear on a political issue). Such parody ingratitude!

That said, I'm still a stickler for protocol and the office of the president as protagonist in the nature of communication may be funny but I am not sure of the motive. It lowers the dignity and esteem of the office. Also, since Obama is the current president, there is an element of disrespect that humor can not compensate for nor does questionable taste.

Very funny - IF you have kept up with politics and have ever used e-mail or texting yourself

Presented as if Obama has really been texting his friends and other politicians, these are inside jokes. That is, you will only get what's funny if you know the players and you are familiar with texting, emoticons, etc. Anyone who has kept up with who's who in politics during the last decade will enjoy the jokes.

    Short and sweet

This book was short and sweet. I took me less than an hour from cover to cover...

It was entertaining, it made me laugh a few times. I could only picture some of the people (which makes me realize I need to brush up on current events) but the ones I could made reading these messages even better.

I think my favorites were the 3rd one and the last one!
