All in all, I liked the characters of this book. But---the 'hero' Vincent was not at all appealing. OK, he was badly burned by his ex-wife. But that was THREE years ago. He meets and is immediately attracted to Ivy. She is as different from his ex as night and day, yet he treats her as if they were one and the same. I'm surprised his 'push me-pull me' attitude with Ivy wasn't enough to make her knock him off a balcony. He was self-centered & determined not to involve himself in her life, since he only wanted her for sex, and yet was jealous of anyone who talked to her. He wanted her to give, but he only wanted to take. Not much of a hero.

A serial rapist leaves a broken heart carved into the chests of his victims as his 'calling card.' After months on the rapist's trail, Seattle Detective Vincent D'Ambruzzi is closing in--no thanks to the uncooperative Ivy Pennington, an ER doctor who has seen her share of brutality. Hidden in the shadows of the ER looms the very stranger Vincent seeks--who's bent on making Ivy his next victim.

Can tell it is an early book. Starts slow and picks up and just gets better.

I'm a big Susan Andersen fan and was surprised at how disappointing this book is. The hero, and I use the term lightly, is hard to like. Judging Ivy by his ex-wife and his distrust of women goes on through almost all of the book. Ivy's continual forgiveness of his poor behavior was hard for me to accept as he was often cruel.
