His Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea has stood the test of time, inspiring books, stories, and movies. Now young readers can discover Verne all over again in this exquisitely designed book, one of the "Ology" series. It all begins with a purported sea-stained journal, written by one Zoticus de Lesseps in 1863 and now lent to the publisher. This account of a voyage of exploration based on Verne's Nautilus voyage, "has every appearance of authenticity" but no record of de Lesseps exists. Thus begins a remarkable adventure for young readers. The book, a facsimile of the journal, includes scrawled notes detailing the journey, descriptions of colorful travel companions, drawings and pictures of sea creatures and ship equipment, as well as souvenirs: a gold coin from the ill-fated ship Astrolabe, small guide to mythical sea creatures such as the Kraken or Leviathan, and a tintype of Captain Nemo. The publisher has added supplementary wonders: a fold out-map, drawings of navigator's tools, small biography of Jules Verne, fold-out maps of routes and undersea landscapes, plus much, much more. This gloriously illustrated book is the kind of literary adventure a reader can dive into over and over, discovering something new and exciting each time. Who needs a virtual reality game? NOTE: There is no title page, per se. The first page says "by Zoticus de Lesseps," yet a small newspaper clipping facsimile states, "A SELECT GROUP OF TALENTS TODAY EMBARKED ON A JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY. The group consisted of Ms. Emily Hawkins and Ms. A. J. Wood, writers, Mr. Ian Andrew,Mr. Gary Blythe and Mr. David Wyatt, artists."     Beautiful, interesting, and exciting!

    I gave this as a "requested" Christmas gift to my grandson (second grade)and he's thrilled. It's a very creatively constructed book so I wouldn't recommend it for a younger child. He's fascinated with the ocean and this book encourages learning.

    Exceptional Quality!

    I have been purchasing the 'ology' series for my nephew since he was 7 and is now 12 years old. He is thrilled with them and looks forward to one at each birthday and holidays. I highly recommend this series.
