Overview

Neona is an island where life and legends are a mix of good and unthinkable evil. Initiated into these legends from childhood, little Ina asked too many questions but over time grew to be a woman who silently questioned the beliefs and customs of her people. Even though she avoided crisis at all costs, her life blazed from one crisis to another. Just when she finally finds reprieve, her sanctuary is broken. On her daughter’s fifteenth birthday, Ina discovers an exquisite shell by the sea shore. The same day, a stranger mysteriously arrives on island. Little did Ina know that this would herald the beginning of a harrowing threat to a secret island life as it had existed for centuries and lead to unprecedented turmoil for her family. Faced with what seems like insurmountable challenges as a mother and grandmother, Ina must make a heart wrenching choice in order to comply with tradition. Consumed by guilt, self-loathing and pain, she transforms into a rebel….

“Your granddaughter has to go, so we can have peace here.”
Ina knew the only way people, dead or alive, left the island.
The implication was clear to her.
Arisa expected her to grasp the message. And she did.

A good read. I found the "middle" dragged a little, but the ending was worth reading through to the end. An interesting storyline that makes me wonder if the author will pursue this further with another book...if so, i would most certainly read it!

Writer did a good job in fleshing out her characters and story line. Liked the ending too.

This novel was a great read. Made me cry, laugh and imagine myself on the island of Neona. Faith Anna's portrayal of her characters is vivid and indepth. She touches on the core of their thoughts and emotions. Overall, it is a well-written story, uplifting and with a surprising end. I'll certainly be looking out for this writer's next book!

Read the book and gave it a five star rating. It's well-developed and properly edited. These days, we see books by  indie authors with lots of  language errors but Ocean's Daughter impressed me in terms of language use, plot and character development. Watching Ina grow made me feel good about the book. The story line was unique and very interesting. I look forward to reading the next installment or book by this author. P.S.: While acknowledging the freedom of any reader to rate any book as they choose, I believe it is wrong to abuse the privilege, especially by the comments we make. I think the reviewer who gave the book two star (April 27) is on a personal vendetta of sorts. I say so because the book makes it clear that the islanders wondered where the stranger had come from.  And to say that all the five stars are from friends of the author is a breach of review guidelines: "all information contained in your review are accurate in all respects". Bottom line: a negative review doesn't have to be mean. Hopefully the author ignores the only mean review I can see here.

Nicely written

Poor writing style with short uninspired sentences. Slow story with extremely boring middle section. Obvious questions would go unanswered, such as the islanders seemingly never trying to find out or care where the stranger has come from once they learn to communicate a little. I would not recommend to anyone. I have to think the 5 star reviews are from friends. Three stars at best.
