Overview

Oystein Ramfjord's project, Amethystium, creates ethereal, mysterious aural impressions on his debut release, Odonata. Although this album officially came out on August 14, 2001, it had already achieved significant popularity and airplay on his website, where it has been extremely well-received in both the new age and electronica genres. As the offerings from this talented Norwegian composer tend to be melodious and relaxing, and have a pleasant variety of timbres and cadences which maintain listeners' interest, their attraction is quite understandable. "Opaque" could be music for submariners, with its echoing sonar tones. "Enchantment" has a Middle Eastern influence, while "Avalon" offers delicate crystalline chimes. "Arcane Voices" includes Gregorian chanting interwoven with percussion. Ethnic influences can also be heard in the Sanskrit vocalizations on "Opaque" and the Buddhist chanting of the opening to "Lhasa." Yet, all these diverse influences are melded together into a harmonious whole that rings delightfully to the ear. In all, this is an elegant album, and its ambient soundscapes will draw many casual listeners into becoming Amethystium fans. Definitely recommended.

Well, there is no need to say too much about this. Its a great CD, I have spoken with the artist behind it, he is a brilliant man. If you like New Age, this is THE CD. I would also recommend checking out his website http://mp3.com/amethystium/ This guys is very talanted and deserves the recognition.

As another listener put it, just as good if not better than ENIGMA. This is a very good album and would suggest it to all listeners of new age music. This is a very relaxing ,yet invigorationg album!

Amethystium is the one and only. I have had the pleasure of enjoying his music for over 2 years now, and still it makes me feel like something not from this world. Truly looking forward to the next album. Thanks Amethystium for enriching the world.

Upon first listen, I found that Delerium is sampled many times throughout the recording, as is Enigma. But after awhile, you can definetly hear some original beauty. Another flaw in this record is that it is a little repetitive. Other than that, Odonata is a beautiful piece of music and would be a nice addition to one's collection of new age albums.

I only heard 2nd album, APHELION. I bought it right away. On first 30 seconds listening to "Shade to light", I knew im headed to the cashier with this CD. It's better than Enigma, for me. While Enigma's best is "closed-loop", Amethystium is open-loop and closed-loop alternate. The melody is surprisingly carrying you to unexpected places..you never could anticipate from prior melodies. "Shade to Light" is very powerful music...you can almost feel of acquiring some telekineses powers when hearing the melodies.. :-)

I bought Odonata and Aphelion at the same time. Played them back to back, over and over, just can't stop. Absolutely fantastic. For reading, writing or just day dreaming. Hope there are more CD's to come.
